Travis Best (not sure of contract situation but I like the way he runs an offense) Kenny Anderson (see above) Jay Williams (not sure of his condition but has a lot of talent) Earl Watson (averaged 5 assists a game in only 20 mins/gm) Luke Ridnour (nice young talent in Seattle who didn't get any playing time last season) Jeff McInnis (really blossomed last season after being traded to Cleveland...may be able to get him with TE) Damon Jones (averaged 5.8 assists in only 24 mins/gm...has Houston ties) I'd really love to see McInnis in a Rockets uniform but I know that is easier said than done....Damon Jones would be a nice consolation prize....
earl would be the best ouf the bunch. i would take him over the other guys that we are talking about (fish, hudson, etc...). the problem is, how do we get him?
West loves Earl Watson. He can't shoot, but he can run a team, is very smart, and plays great defense. He's a younger, shorter Eric Snow. I don't think he's available to us, by the way. In fact, the only guy on the list with a remote chance of being a Rocket next year is Damon Jones.
Why do I feel like we're at the beginning of a sports-comedy movie? Think "Major League" or "The Replacements." "Coach, there just aren't any Free Agent point guards left. We might need to find someone . . . less conventional." [Camera flashes to a city game of street-hoops, where Dave Chapelle is shooting threes and talking all kinds of trash.] [Deep announcer's voice]: This summer, when you need some other point guard options, you need: "The Minimum League Exception."
But what would it take to get McInnis? He was part of a well done rebuilding process in Celveland, but the rug was just pulled out from under him with the Boozer fiasco. I think most of the PG's left on the market fall into the category og they MIGHT be good enough to be counted on as a starter. McInnis is the real deal.
How about Mike Miller? Memphis has a slew of GFs. MM played point when JWill was out last year. If West is trying to get Dampier, maybe we can send the TE their way. PG: MM SG: TM SF: JJ PF: JH C: YM Tall, athletic group.
Someone else to consider is the Knicks' Frank Williams. I don't know a lot about him. He's young and unproven, but I've heard he's a good defender. Whether he stays with the Knicks or gets moved to Chicago in the Crawford trade, there's little room for him at the PG spot. Perhaps we could offer a pick for him.
Since G/F have been mentioned, I think Wally Szczerbiak could be had by the TE. He had a bad season because of injuries, and getting Spree was a nice slap in the face. He has a nice shot, and can rebound pretty well.
anyone ever consider sending Taylor and Griffin to La for Fox and Payton. Both of those are in the last yr of their contracts and Payton was still effective until he couln't touch Billups.
both fox and payton r done for good. plus payton is such a whiner.......go cry to the officials every game gary......
What ever happened to that guy from the last summer league? Scooles or something like that. He did good for the Rockets in the SL.
