Yao is really in good shape now. Rockets’ strength and conditioning coach is helping him to go through training in China now ...

What's this about a limit? Where is this info from? Sounds good, though, I guess.

I must be one of the few who is against Yao gaining any more weight.

dedication to his craft. whenever shaq got a toe injury, he managed to gain a substantial amount of weight. can't be said about yao.

Depends on what kind of weight. If he's increasing muscle mass, that would be a good thing.

The biggest fear with weight gain is quickness (which Yao has none anyways) and potential injury. Yao seems to have a good lower base so he shouldnt have as many knee and foot problems as other big men.

Hopefully his toe issue is just a temporary thing.

Too much weight is not a good thing for a basketball player. The constant running up and down the court while weighing +310lbs can easily cause damage to the body. The joints, ligaments, and tendons can’t distinguish between 310 lbs. of muscle or 310lbs. fat.

A lot of people think that Yao needs to bulk up but in reality he needs to just get stronger while retaining his present weight or even dropping a little weight. With the exception of heavyweight divisions, Olympic weight lifters, wrestlers, and boxers will train for strength while decreasing or maintaining their weight

Yeah, I read it in Chinese news, and translated what is said by Yao here. Apparently Rockets set the target weight for Yao as 315 lbs, and Yao was bragging about his successful control of his weight to the reporter.

Fool! Everyone brags, to some extent. Yao is a human, not saint. :)

Saints brag too. Mother Teresa used to always brag about how she was such a badass nurturer. Stuff like, "The generosity of my spirit is only surpassed by the depth of my faith." or "I'm going to be canonized and you're not!:sticks tongue out:".

And don't even get me started on Thomas Moore.

You still need the links. That's the policy.

If you down load the Rockets screen saver from the Rockets site it has a cool picture of Yao Ming and it lists him as 7'6" 310lbs.

I know its not official but it is a cool screen saver.

I just hope that Yao didnt peak too "early" by gearing up all his preparation for the Olympics;). Anyway, can anyone clarify if there is a corelation between amonut of muscle and stamina?

As long as he keeps getting stronger (especially in the upper body)...but I think 310 pounds is great for his frame...Now if he does get stronger, averaging 14+ rebounds should be an attainable goal...
