Seems like he has no expectations of success this year and will have three straight seasons of the worst record in the entire league. As for rebuilding, let’s get the third pick again next year and draft another skinny rookie who’ll take three years to gain weight and develop. We are realistically three to four years away from being a legit playoff contender and that’s disappointing. He has the cheapest roster in the league and seems content losing and having few fans show up for games. Didn’t Stephen Smith last year say that Fertitta was a very competitive, impatient man who didn’t take losing lightly and wouldn’t stand for it and would make a bunch of changes if not successful? That couldn’t be further from the truth!!!
All I can say is his track record of meddling with Rockets affairs doesn’t look good. So him not caring is a good thing I guess?
We can't blast Les Alexander for not letting the Rockets bottom out while also blasting Tilman Fertitta for letting them bottom out. I don't mind the losses. I think accountability will come more next year. Again, they have told us the plan. They want to compete next year. Training wheels have to come off for 2023-24. This year is to determine who can and can not be part of that plan.
Next year we owe OKC our pick. This year big Vic looks a generational talent Fertitta is cheap Rookie contracts are bargains Do the math. If Silas is cheap and we lose lots and get big Vic, then Fertitta will be thrilled. Does he want to win this year? Possibly. But if we are bad and get a high pick I bet he is happy too
Tilman does care, that's why we have some exciting high potential picks playing for The Rockets right now. Every single move Stone has done has been the right one with the exception of Silas... Both lottery picks have been the right pick, will they pan out? No one really knows but because we know a couple things that we didn't a few years ago does not mean that the picks at the time were wrong or poorly managed. The team is exactly were they were expected to be with the exception of some extremely terrible coaching. But that terrible coaching could lead us to a #1 pick next year and that's potentially a franchise changing pick.
While they have the lowest active cap in the league by a whopping $900k lower than the Spurs they are 23rd in total cap which includes $62m in dead money. They are a 20ish win team that's $14m away from the luxury tax. Most lottery teams want no part of being that close to the tax line. Can't call that cheap. He's used that money to buy assets that have / will assist with the rebuild.
The less hes in front of a camera and not talking, the better for the all of us. I havent really heard from him all year although I really havent been following very hard like in years past but its refreshing not seeing his smug face all the time.
You say that while he's paid $121,815,558 in dead money over the past two seasons and was only $8.4m from the luxury tax line last year while wining 20 games and $14m this year .... and probably won't win many more than 20 again. Why's he allowing Stone to be up against the tax line with 20-win teams instead of staying in the $75m range with the Spurs & Pacers if he's such a cheap ass.
The Rockets wouldn't have two championships if they had not tanked. Never forget we tanked for Dream.
He is showing so tough love right now. Could we win more games sure but why. Long term goal is to win championship(s).
He's making plenty of profit regardless so he's going to be way more chilled about it than us. Why are some people so insecure about tanking? "WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO THIS FOREVER?? WHAT TANGIBLE THING DO WE HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT RIGHT NOW" lol Stop fighting reality and nature. You're stressing yourself out for nothing. We're just over a year into actually developing our own picks. You can't be fed up already, get your sh*t together. Your plan sucks, no one wants your plan of optimizing the team to get more wins right now. The plan that is being executed by the organization that does not care what you think is: tank till we have a core that looks worthy of being a contender in the near future. Focus a lot on in-house development. Winning in a rebuilding season does not matter to the organization as much as it matters to you and that's not going to change. It is what it is, live with it.
As much as he wants to win. I bet Fertita wouldn’t mind having Wembayana on the team for a decade or so. He would make way more money and possibly win championships. So I guess he’s ok with gambling on the draft one more season. I’m sure his son’s influence plays a big part on his patience.
