Lousy trendy eggheads with their orange retro Astros caps and there retro NBA jerseys. Don't think I don't know your type, B-Bob.
Ralph Lauren Polo`s and Docker Slacks are a staple of my work wardrobe. They sure beat wearing a button down everyday. Today I am sporting a beautifully tailored White Ralph Lauren Polo, buttoned all the way to the top with a pair of Olive colored kahaki dockers. I am wearing a faboulous pair of Nunn and Bush black loafers with a matching black belt. I have accesorised with a Gold and Silver watch by some foreign company I have never heard of................I look great
I have many polo shirts. Mostly Izod, with a few Arnie's and Greg Norman's. Of course, I am a golfer.......and an accountant.
All I ever wear are polos and T-shirts, so what is the alternative? Starchy dress shirts? Nerdy short sleeve button-up shirts? And although I wear them, I have to ask, 'what is the collar there for?" what purpose does it serve. I play golf courses all the time that say " collared shirts required' Why? Does the collar just add that touch of class that keeps the riff-raff off the course? And what about ties? Who needs them choking the blood off from your head and flopping in your lunch? And what's the deal with suits? Are you wearing that jacket to keep warm? I really like the way that when you try to raise your arms up in one the fabric bunches up around your ears; yea that's comfortable. Boy ,you want to talk about disgusting, how about all the dudes in Houston that go to restaurants in those sleeveless shirts. I wonder if they get armpit hair in their food. But The Mullet of menswear has got to be the jumpsuit. However it is atleast a sure fire way for those old dudes to wear a shirt that actually goes with their pants. Same fabric , sewed together; you just can't go wrong. Jeep
Then count me as a "weirdo"..... oh, you already do? nevermind, carry on. btw...Achebe is totally correct.. in the 80's the only people that wore polos were preppy f*cks that deserved all the ridicule we could heap on them. and for the record, I dont like it, but as polos and khakis seem to be the standard uniform of an IT professional...I'll have to get used to them.
Its all about how you wear the polo. If you button it up all the way to the top, then your bordering dorkiness. If go with the unbuttoned look, then you are getting cooler. Also, whats wrong with dressing preppy?
No, I consider you the bouncer of the BBS. j/k, 2K, you know I have nothing but love for you. How was Chicago?
is it me, or is this whole thread subtly laced with the venom of haunted memories about the "cool kids" in school? most of you are WAY too old to still be even THIS concerned about this topic. dressing preppy?? the preps and the dorks?? geez...i'm thinking it's time to put it behind you and move on.
It's just you. The fact that Cindy chose the guy in 10th grade who was wearing an ugly-ass polo and my resulting life-long scar from that episode have nothing to do with my starting this thread.
Crap I'm a year late.... Well anyway, I have an intense fear of polo shirts. I think it might be a League City thing B-Bob. I've only pwn3d one of these in my life, way back in 1997 when I was working at Blockbuster Video. I hated it. I hate buttons. Seriously, after I touch one, I feel like I need to wash my hands.
I also despise polos, though I do wear them for work (beats a tie). To me, they just SCREEEEEEAM "GOLF!!!" They're for middle-aged guys with titanium clubs and a bald spot. The "mullet" issue cannot be argued with: Polos truly strive to be both business AND casual simultaneously. Pick one, you slobs!!
Ever since Kanye West started wearing them in his music videos and appearances, polo's and the whole prep look are back in style with the teenagers. The distinction between "urban" and "prep" is that "urban" is just baggier and looser.
By the way, despite my post of over a year ago, I do not wear short sleeve button-down shirts with ties like Sipowicz. I have one short sleeve button-down shirt, but it's one of those Chandler from Friends-type shirts, and I've only worn it once and never with a tie.
