[Yahoo] Racist Airlines? Joe Biden Says Charging For Extra Legroom 'Hits People of Color The Most'

Legroom debate aside, Spirit, Frontier, Sun Country, etc. all are guilty of providing a false budget friendly option to flying that does prey on people with less money. I don't know if there's anything inherently racist about it, but it is certainly a scam that preys on people, and I'm glad the Biden admin is going to be looking at mechanisms to at least make them disclose the actual cost of flying.

That's the quote. Is he saying people of color are taller or....how about this for size?


He's saying people of color are typically less well off statistically in the US therefore fees like this harm them more because the fees are a larger portion of their income.

I'm not white and I pay for extra legroom every time because I am tall, so, ROCK ON. EVIL JOE. Or DIRTY BIDEN. Or whatever yall call him? Dark Brandon? I don't know his name. He doesn't know his name. But planes ****ing suck. Capitalism is supposed to produce amazing user experience, not this **** we have in America. Virgin and Emirates fly in style. I gotta suck **** to luck into a Dreamliner.

 

I think that is likely what Biden meant and as he typically does mangles his meaning. Fully agree though that airlines should be revealing in their advertising what they are charging ahead of time. I once flew from MSP to Denver on Frontier on an advertised price for $20. By the time I completed my booking it was $90. Still a cheap flight but going through all the billing options was a pain and misleading.

Same thing too with ticket charges for sports and concerts. Almost a third of my ticket to WS game 2 was fees added by Stubhub that weren't listed in the original price.

 

That gimmick is used ANYWHERE. You can look up a door online and it'll says $2,000 but the dimensions are tiny, like 4ft by 1.5ft and once you dial-in a more realistic sizing (96inx30in), the price is suddenly $4,500. Not including shipping. GOOD LUCK

 

You're right truth in advertising is a big deal. That's why there are so many ads with the fast talking bits at the ends about "limited offer, offer only good at these locations, etc..."

Are you saying the regulation sounds horrible or the things it's addressing sound horrible?

 

Horrible that airlines would have to be honest and transparent with their customers and that customers would be able to pick the best deal for themselves.

 

I feel like if the Democrats never said "people of color" or "LGBT" ever again that the Republican party would literally cease to exist.

 

And those door prices hit people of color the hardest.

 

If you're implying that people with less money can't read, then yes those budget airlines might be racist and/or taking advantage of marginalized holiday travelers.

 

I tend to fly AA, not those airlines. what are they doing that's predatory?
