How crazy is that!? Hopefully the Rockets are trying to steal Battie from the Cavs since they're trying to free up cap space.

Can you imagine Yao trying to play 40 minutes in an afternoon game without any food or water like Hakeem during Ramadan?

    Yep. Battie or Diop.

Take Battie so that the Cavs have $$$ to retain Boozer and the Jazz miss out on him.

we should probably stop dreaming about the cavs clearing space for boozer. i don't see anyway they'll try to match after what he did to them.

That would be double the fun, get a quality back-up big man AND screw the Jazz.

did you seriously just suggest we give Jason friggin' Collier the MLE valued at 5.4 million?

5.4 million dollars for Collier? JASON COLLIER? Unless some sort of mad scientist got a hold of Collier and turned him into a super human cyborg, he isn't worth but maybe 1/10th of that. He can be had for the minimum.

Who'd jump for the opening tipoff, Yao or the yet-to-be-signed backup? I think it's knock on our team if we don't let Yao at least attempt to jump for the ball, regardless if he loses everytime.

that depends on how much Yao steps up on defense and rebounding

We are set at power forward. I honestly believe that we have everything we need at that position. Howard is steady. Mo is instant offense off the bench. And Padgett is a nice change of pace with strong shooting and hustle. Oh yea.... and our brute in Spoon who can also guard most backup centers in the league.

I say sign Vlade. He can still score. One hell of a passer. And he would be a much better mentor to Yao than Ewing.

Are you joking? Our forwards stink. Who is afraid of our tandam? Garnett? Brand? Malone? Duncan? Nowitzki? frickin' Troy Murphy or even Brian Cardinal? - Answer - NOBODY. We are going to get chewed up and spit out every night at that position, and Yao is going to get fouls-a-plenty just trying to get out of the way. We need an enforcer back there behind Howard - not Mo T and Spoon. Good God, Man. Open your eyes.

    Come on!!!

Our Power Forwards are steady. That's what we needed. Last year we either got points (Taylor) or rebounds and blocks (Cato). This year with Howard, our power forward can get us Points and Rebounds from the SAME player.

Taylor is the ultimate 6th man. He can come in and score when the starters got a rest.

Our 2 stars will strike fear into all other teams!!! All star teams have trouble winning all the time. Jealousy sets in. But with Yao and McGrady both great passers for their respected positions, all the Rockets need from the guys around them is DEPENDABILITY. Can they knock down the open shot, make the layup, finisht the fast break, dunk the ball, get the loose ball, etc.

Our center is a star. Our shooting guard is a star. Our small forward is steady. Our power forward is steady. All we need to focus on is our point guard.

Collier...are you guys kidding me. pay him a buck if you want him. I say forget him, forget everybody, get Badiane in to play the backup C. Sign him to a 3 year min contract and trade spoon or moT for a point. I dont care if Badiane is greener than green...it doesnt matter, i'd rather see him develop than get another overpriced big man and another bad contract on our books.

I wouldn't mind Vlade. But he doesn't answer our need for a bruiser at the 4/5. Backup center's not really a problem. Like WB said, any big body will suffice to backup Yao. What's missing is a tough, rebounding (shot-blocking) big man to pair with Yao at least some of the time. Losing Cato does hurt us in the short-term because we don't have anyone on hand at the moment to replace what he gave us (I'm with you, Will; it's hard to believe). The loss of Steve and Cat will hopefully be more than compensated with the gain of T-Mac.

I wouldn't mind trading Spoon to the Sonics for Booth to remedy the imbalance at the 4 and 5. I think they'd do it since Spoon's contract is one year shorter than Booth's and Spoon can rebound. An expiring contract in James or Potapenko would be better, but I don't know if Seattle would do it.

I'd be up for Battie for the TE. The only real problem with Battie is he has bad knees, but he only has two years left on his deal. I don't know if a Battie for the TE would fly though unless they want to try to bring Boozer back.

I'm surprised that Les would use both the MLE and the TE because I think that would put us in LT land, but if he's not concerned, then all the better.

Les has already saved 10m this year.

    1. Rudy's contract 5 m
    2. TMac's trade 5 m
    (14m + 5m + 1.7m + 1m - 12m - 6.5m - 8m = -5m)

    Now we can spend more.
