okay, i think we need a two week moratorium on even talking to anyone at this point. let everyone review the contracts that have been signed, realize how crazy they are, and let some sanity return. how is everyone and their mom getting a 6 year deal? sign BB quick before he starts demanding the full 6. i know this is the logo and people will say it must be a good signing becasue of that but you're telling me this guy couldn't be had for less?
Second year in a row West uses the full MLE. Seems to be just stockpiling talent. I wonder if this means Stromile Swift is a goner.
does the Grizz even NEED cardinal? I mean they're pretty much stacked everywhere except at maybe the 5 spot.
we have to take notice and leave this market alone. We already have enough bad contracts and we can't afford signing a player like cardinal for six years and 39maloney's. If this means it goes from a two to a three year process, I can live.
Its more about pressure to keep up with other teams, than being stupid IMO, especially in the west. It seems most of these questionable contracts are being done in the West.
on the one hand, that is true. on the other, signing stupid contracts to keep up is still stupid unless you're just right on the cusp of greatness and just have to have a guy. obviously, everyone has different opinions about a player's value and if you really feel a guy is worth it, i guess more power to ya (even if you're stupid) but if you're just keeping up you might as well let someone else hurt themselves salary wise and just get the best deals possible until hopefully some sanity returns next year (when presumably the whole world won't have cap room again, but then who knows). role players have a funny way of popping up every year because well, they're role players. the supply won't run dry most likely. maybe they just need to have CD come in and give a lecture on the evils of 6 year contracts for role players. show them that we're still paying matt maloney and they'll be too scared to ever sign someone past 4 years again.

Cardinal for the FULL MLE? This is unbelievable! I mean Cardinal is a solid role player, but the FULL MLE? To think, us on the BBS were leary of giving Barry the FULL MLE. I cant remember a time where GMs have thrown this much money around for average to below average talent! West once again is stockpiling talent, gaining assets for trades. Get as much as he can so he can do 2 for 1s or 3 for 1 deals.
I've taken most of these ludicrous signings in stride, accepting them as part of the cyclical insanity that pentrates the NBA ranks every couple years. But this contract warrants a Gregory Peck like "Oh my God." I've always taken a special pleasure in ridiculing Brian Cardinal, in no small part due to his comical baldness at such a young age, so for him to recieve this kind of contract is nothing short of mind-numbing. I want to laugh.....very, very hard...but I can't help but sit here dumbstruck wondering how in the hell Brian freakin' Cardinal just pulled down 39 million. What a country.
I'm not MemphisX, but you have to think that West is going to deal Outlaw, Battier and some others to get a Damp-type player. While I think that the Custodian is not worth near the MLE, I recall many saying the same about Posey last season. Now Cardinal is no Posey, but I'd rather have him than Foyle (who got more) and is he really much worse than Hedo (he looks worse, but I like his game more)? Cardinal is a system guy who will be a perfect fit into Hubie's system. So it makes sense from that perspective. Also, maybe it's just me, but the MLE just doesn't seem to be that big a deal when you have no high priced contracts. Wells is the Griz biggest deal ($8 mm) and it expires this season. So using the MLE to get a guy who will contribute doesn't bother this Griz fan that much. That, and West has done fine by getting Watson and Posey using part or all of the MLE in the past, so he gets some slack here.
somewhere sam fisher is crying... but meanwhile.... geezus... how about we hold off and next year we get somebody for cheap because every other team has spent all their money.
