I saw it yesterday. I am a big South Park fan and the previews looked hilarious, so I was excited to see the flick. It was playing in a theatre 5 minutes away, so I went to a matinee knowing I would be home in time for the Stros game. I was hungover from the gig the night before, so I, ahem, had a lil' hair of the dog and went to the movies. The first 20 minutes of this movie, I was rolling off my seat laughing hysterically. The first scene, with Team America thwarting a terrorist attack in Paris, was unbelievably funny. As funny as the best South Park episodes, but with marionettes! The last 1 hour, 10 minutes I alternated between saying "huh"?, "WTF"?, and wondering what else I could have done with the five bucks I spent to see the movie. It was a great idea that was wasted with too much marionette "character development" and not enough funny stuff, although their portrayals of Kim Jong-Il and Alec Baldwin were very funny. It would have made a great 30 minute TV show. RMT's rec: Save your cash and wait until it hits Cinemax. Spend the five bucks on a six pack.
I found this moving absolutely hilarious. From start to finish there was almost always something that had me cracking up. There are two kinds of crass in this movie. Crass that was hysterical, and crass that was just crass, and didn't make it to the level of funny. Fortunately the former by far outweighed the latter. The most crass scenes in the movie did end up being funny, and some of the 'crass but not as crass' scenes didn't quite make it. The movie pokes fun at everyone, and had some great songs in the mix. There were so many funny moments in this movie, that I can think about it over and over again and bring a smile to my face. I definitely recommend this movie to any and all adults.
I still say if they hadn't gone so overboard in twanging up the vocals on "Freedom Isn't Free" (making it an obvious parody), they could have released it anonymously a few months before the movie and it would have hit #1 on the contemporary country chart(s).
I didn't think it was as funny as the South Park movie, so in that sense I was a bit disappointed. But still very hilarious, with some great jokes. Definitely saved my movie-going day after watching the incredibly unfunny Shark Tales.
im sure toby keith/clint black/darrel worrley are kicking themselves in their star-spangled balls for not thinking of this song first. i thought the movie was great and everyone should go see it, especially if you are a southpark fan. "there are 3 types of people in the world" - its amazing how something so stupid could ring so true.
Without a doubt. Which makes it even funnier. 'Course, I don't really like country so.... Anyway, I'm glad I had to stay through the credits. Jong's 'Your Worthless, Alec Baldwin' song was great.
Man, I forgot the full name of the movie and kind of assumed a NEW one had dropped. Sad now. I thought the first one was maybe called just - TEAM AMERICA - and the sequel = Team America: World Police.
Great video of a bald eagle with animated arms, using the "'Merica F*** yeah" song from Team America:
