CJ had a rough early few minutes against a top 10 defense. That fumble for a TD was tough. He picked it up and ultimately righted the ship in routing Iowa. Good to see him struggle and bounce back vs adversity. Should be another great test vs Penn St this weekend. Bryce had a great game. Miss St is not exactly a defensive stalwart, but good QBs will shut the door on marginal teams the way he did. Great way to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss the week before. Best QB of the week IMO. Hendon Hooker keeps doing his thing gimmick or not. Looking like QB3 to me in this cycle so far.
I think he's being held back, because he threw quite well while on the run last year. He needs to play the QB position like Brady, Burrow, run for 5 yds on 3rd and 4 then slide. It's not like he's got to be LJ or Hurts.
Both of those positions are weak in the next draft. Tunsil has rated out as a top 4 LT and Howard's play has surprised me. The OT position is the least of the Texans issues.
If it means that they could add a combo of 2 of the top defensive players in the top 10 I'd be fine with Mills another year as stupid as that sounds (or even a veteran journeyman until the following draft) Imagine being able to draft 2 of these guys: Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, Kelee Ringo, Christian Gonzalez, Trenton Simpson. Adding two top defenders in the top 10 and even going more defense in round 2 would be ok with me.
This Also if Mills is as bad as most think he's, then Caserio should have another top pick in 2024 to get the new franchise QB.
I'm not against this, but wouldn't you want to be really bad next yr too, so that you would have a high draft pick to draft your franchise QB? That's if Mills is as bad as you think he is and if this is a talent around him issue and Mills is your franchise QB (doubtful) then that's a win-win.
I would go defense on our first two picks. Will Anderson is a beast. He disrupts the QB on nearly every play for Alabama. He is used more as a edge rusher. The best defense lineman at the second pick. I would be willing to trade the Cleveland pick and move down and get more picks. Maybe a late first rounder and second round pick.
No what would most likely happen is that Mills is average to below average and the team improves around him so that we are an average to below average team. Now you’re stuck with not so great draft picks and you would have to give up a lot of draft capital to move up for qbs that many around here think are better than this years draft class which means the teams at the top would be even less likely to trade out of those spots. We would become just like the Colts, which is a crappy place to be.
Most here seem to think Mills sucks so bad that they will still have a top 5 pick. Me I see them going 6-11 next year after talent is added at best. That's a top 10 pick. Since their are 3 QB's I like better in that class, I'm guessing one falls to say #5. However much would it cost to move from 10 to 5 would be well worth it to get a better QB with a team that has more pieces around to actually help the young QB. Versus what they've got now, which is a young QB with hardly any above avg skill position players around him.
I'd probably expect that outcome from a veteran journeyman. If this team is going to tank again next year Mills would be a fine commander!
