Nix is really confusing. In the G-League last year he averaged 20.6 ppg on efficient shooting (49.6%) from the field and even hit almost 40% of his 3's. He grabbed 5.9 rebs and dished out 7.6 assists. Those numbers would suggest he could be a decent NBA player at least some day considering he is only 20 years old. On the Rockets he has been tentative and just looks confused. I say we give him to the end of the year to show some improvement.
I actually thought he was decent last game. Thing is the bar right now is very low for him. If he dribbles better than Eric Gordon and passes more than KPJ, he can facilitate an offense where others get touches. That's basically all he should be focused on doing (alongside knocking down FTs and playing D), not getting his own offense or going iso.
If he could hit free throws and play defense, I wouldn’t be so hard on him. Unfortunately, those are the two things he’s never been good at and doesn’t appear to be working on. He isn’t an effort guy on or off the court. Don’t sense that at least as these are fixable issues with work and effort.
I do not trust the process , but I have no power I do not like embracing the tank we will add a top 5 pick . If we don’t win 41 games next year I’d fire stone and Silas . in my opinion anyone can do what they’ve done , Lose a bunch of games and kick the can down the road . people bring up OKC going from 3 straight bottom years to 50 wins . Is that our bar ? Should we fire if we don’t get 50 wins . I think that’s too high a bar , but 41 might be too low. If we end up the absolutle bottom team again I’d fire Silas . Not entirely his fault , but I don’t think you can shake 3 straight #1 loser seasons . It would break any coach . At least with that team . If you lose 3 years straight and get told losing is ok , you can’t flip that switch and fight for wins . We need tangible , real results THIS year . Kpj , Tate , and last years crop aren’t rookies anymore . Hell , Jabari and Tari seem to be the type to be ultra competitive . It takes something away from you .. an ultra competitor , when you get places in a situation where you are expected to tolerate losing . The NBA is hard and guys need to know that. But , we gotta win more than 20 games. ppl talk about how hard OKC tanked .. but they had 4 more wins than us ! some of our “growth” at the end was literally just guys putting up nice stats or winning vs a team that was tanking or resting . we barely beat a bad team on a B2B last night . Tho , our best player IS out . the longer we sit Tate the more I know we are stealth tanking . We win vs Memphis if he plays (granted many Memphis regulars were out) I wanna se our guys play and play well . Ultimately I still cut a lot of slack on wins and losses this year . It will be hard for us to close games . But we can get hot and nix still sucks , but josh Christopher has looked even worse , so I gotta say that
There's nothing confusing about it. In the G he had ample amount of minutes to avg and do all of that. With more playing time Nix would look a lot better. He looks bad at times because we have only seen bits and pieces of him playing. Nix would look a lot better playing 20+ minutes a game but the team currently doesn't have time to give him.
I didn't lie we aren't tanking, we are trying to win - or at least Silas is.....doesn't mean we will, we are very young. But we aren't tanking. DD
Doesn't matter what Silas tries to do, he has to work with what Stone gives him .... and this team, while talented isn't good enough to win many games. What you have is a bunch of talent that A) doesn't know how to win and B) doesn't quite fit together. The result is a team that loses a whole lot of games. That'll change in the coming offseason when Stone sets out to transition from purely talent collection to putting together a complete team expected to win games. To do that, he'll have to add some veteran talent that knows how to win in this league. Stone's got at least $52,937,421 in cap space to work with next offseason if they land the #1 pick and $59,654,181 if they end up with pick #10 For this franchise, the clock strikes midnight at seasons end. The honeymoon's over and the expectations go from "improving" to "winning".
Great post….agreeing with everything said!!! Christopher has been bad, but has athletic ability and plays hard on defense and makes free throws. He’ll get it together soon.
I think DD stands for “Dumb & Dumber”….because you’re usually wrong on your analysis as to where I am almost always right. Small ball sucks; Fernando is good; Silas sucks; and Nix really sucks…..just to name a few of my many excellent takes. Nix had 4 turnovers in 8 minutes, scored ZERO points; got lit up on defense….or let’s just stop there and say he had his typical game tonight. Silas should not only be fired for his usual cruddy job of coaching, but also for playing Nix over Christopher. Anybody on this board could coach this team to the same record as Silas the past two seasons.
You can't have a fat slob playing pg. Clearly he doesn't care or have the talent to be in the NBA. Send him back to the g-league
I don't think it is Nix....I think it is Silas. Nix would thrive in a PG role where there was movement and structure, he is trying to play like KPJ and Green and that is not his game.......he needs players to move off the ball, screens to be set and an offense to run. Unfortunately that is not happening in Houston under Silas.....I feel bad for Nix, he looks lost, and it is all his coaches fault. DD
