I have been grappling with these thoughts lately and I am not sure how I am going to feel in the end. The country is more diverse than ever but it’s more than skin tone: it’s different cultures altogether than what I grew up with. With different cultures come different values and it’s not enough to just say it’ll work itself out into a new culture.

Their America Is Vanishing. Like Trump, They Insist They Were Cheated.

The white majority is fading, the economy is changing and there’s a pervasive sense of loss in districts where Republicans fought the outcome of the 2020 election.

It isn't surprising or a recent development that people that can't adopt to changes will be upset.

I read through some of that article and yes the white majority is shrinking and many are feeling that this means that the Right wing is in trouble. I did think that "Demographics is destiny" but the last election is showing that might not be the case. Trump did make inroads into minority electorates and parts of the MAGA message regarding traditional views of gender might have appeal among immigrant and minority groups that feel that the culture has moved too far.

I guess I have the inverse experience. I grew up white in Houston suburbs, but lived in a minority neighborhood and went to an international school. I feel like the diversity I grew up with is now in social and political ascendancy. I suppose I have trouble relating to the white people who grew up in white bubbles and could feel threatened by the belated incursion of the cultures I grew up around.

That's probably exactly why Fort Bend showed up. Our diversity is what is causing the white majority in Fort Bend to shrink preciptously, which is the hallmark of what they define as Objector Districts.

I grew up in Champions in the 80`s (graduated 1984 from KF) and it was 95% white families, now its very diverse and still a great place to live

Sometimes I just wish these reality denying Rs would put their big boy pants on and deal with it. Acting like a crying toddler is a bad look.

Using a sports analogy: you move to a community because you want to live in a community of mostly Rockets fans. Sure there are some people who like the Mavs or Lakers but most like basketball and if they don’t they don’t make a big deal about it. But over the years people who have moved in don’t even like basketball move because the cost of living is low and instead they like baseball and are Phillies fans.

Overtime these people keep coming until one day you wake up and realize you no longer live in Rockets community but a Phillies community.

Coming back to reality: For many of these people they moved to a community because there were jobs and the people shared their political and religious beliefs. But now the jobs are gone, the cost of living is high and they are being dwarfed by a new group who is raising the cost of living and who outwardly have a different and often incompatible culture. This would be an uncomfortable reality to wake up to.

I am just exploring ideas and how they make me feel here.

I was born in H-Tine. My mom was born in Texas. Most of the things people feel they are losing do not interest me. Some of it more or less disgusts me. It's really nothing more than entitlement.

Sounds like you're describing gentrification. Not unlike a black person who lives in an inner-city neighborhood because its cheap only to see white people start buying the real estate and building fancy new houses. Now you can't afford the real estate taxes anymore, attendance at the AME church is declining, and you feel uncomfortable at the shi-shi patio cafe they just opened with $10 boba teas. So you have to move but you don't see any community that looks like the one you'd grown up in. I guess the difference is that in a gentrifying black neighborhood, you have Garnet Coleman mail residents discouraging them from selling their homes to investors while in diversifying white neighborhoods you try to overthrow democracy (not you, of course, but the Trumpers the NYT is talking about).

Gentrification definitely fits in this analogy.
