    https://www.flohoops.com/articles/5050077-hakeem-olajuwon-on-how-to-save-the-post-up-game

"People who are saying the post game is dead don’t know anything about basketball. Anybody who has a good post game can cause a lot of trouble, because you can’t guard them, even if it’s a guard [posting up]. If a smaller guard is guarding me, my advantage is inside. I’m going to post him. That’s the way the mentality of the post is."

He does also say the game has changed, and you have to be able to go in and out, can't only stay in the post. That's true, of course.

In before they accuse @AroundTheWorld of putting Alperen in the same sentence/stratosphere with Hakeem.

If prime Dream was on this team he'd be on the bench because he doesn't fit with KPJ.

By the way, no one, no one at all, is saying run the offense through Sengun in the post. That is a made up strawman by the likes of @DaDakota and @Reeko.

We are saying Sengun should be a PART of the offense, through dribble hand offs, high post, short rolls where the guards actually open their eyes and pass if he’s open, and yes, from time to time when there is a mismatch - some post ups. Sengun’s best skill right now is playmaking, so having him touch the ball, all over the court not just in the post, helps the guards out and creates better shots for them, instead of them hotdogging and impersonating Cat and Franchise out there.

From the tape that I saw from the Turkish league that made me realize Sengun was a great prospect, it wasn’t all post ups, there was a ton of pick and rolls but that requires guards that actually have some IQ to execute. Being a “lob threat” is so incredibly overrated, every good team can execute a pnr without throwing an alley oop. Neither Draymond or Looney are lob threats and the Warriors create easy layups for them.

This is going to become glaringly obvious when fans realize Jabari is standing in the corner wide ass open screaming for the ball while the guards have tunnel vision. That’s why Sengun needs to be in the lineup, he is the only one consistently looking to create advantages for his teammates.

The post up game isn't dead, but it's definitely different. Illegal defenses are now legal. To get Hakeem the ball in the post today, you'd have to have a lot more motion to prevent the defense from swarming him as the ball is passed to him. But guys still post up today, so he's right. It's just a lot harder now.

post-play ain’t dead if you’re elite at it like Embiid and Jokic

Sengun = .93 ppp and a 18% turnover rate in the post

There's two people in the league that have an elite post game and consistently kill teams with it. Embiid and Jokic.

    That's literally it

    He was 19 years old

Jokic in his first season was at .94 ppp (lower turnover rate than Sengun)
Embiid in his first season was at .88 ppp (higher turnover rate than Sengun)

I mentioned this about Sengun before, but if he is unable to develop range then he has to become absolutely ELITE in the post in order to become a star in this league.

if Sengun can end up like Jokic and Embiid in the post, that would be great…I won’t be holding my breath on that tho

Sengun was posting up on 21% of his possessions, so what is the big deal? Y’all want 30%? 40?

he had 22% usage as a rookie, and had a 30% usage rate in game 1 against the Hawks…He needs more?

You are talking too much sense. Thanks for sharing these datas with us. But I don't think that everyone will be grateful. Facts&figures are hard, give them cheap opinion.

There is nothing wrong with having an effective post player per se - the problem is generally those players who are more effective in the post are less switchable defenders meaning they cause problems elsewhere so the league is increasingly turning to switchable defenders and most players capable of switching to multiple positions probably spent their time offensively working on their guard skills rather than back to the basket skills....and really in this day and age you kind of have to be able to shoot like a guard from deep whether you are post player or not - it's the #1 skill to get you on the court against elite competition.

Hakeem could and would dominate today and any player up to the task could try to do the same but I think it will take a special type of player who has the size advantage against most player to make it an easy bucket from the post AND the skill/speed to pull off all the switchable needs and guard like deep shooting. Kat is about the closest thing to that today and his defensive limitations on the perimeter are a BIG reason to why they brought in Gobert as a rotational rim stopper. If that proves to be successful to that team maybe the pendulum will swing a bit and Gobert/KAT or Mobley/Allen pairings will be attempted more but until then, people will continue to double down on spending more time developing players that look more like the Warriors in a team concept rather than teams that look like the TWolves.

If we had prime Dream, KPJ would have a lob target and be either 3&D off ball or 6th man.

Dream was also arguably the greatest defensive center of all time. It’s okay, I’m sure y’all think Sengun can be that too :)
