Please name a few that are available at league minimum level. Com'n people, you expect too much for a league min contract. If Bateer is an athletic 300lb 7 footer with a go to move, we won't be talking about league min. $50M is more like it this summer.

Because other teams didn't have Chinse-speaking star. I even think Heat should pick up Bateer.

Who cares how freaking cost effective a player is if he can't play? If we lose games because we get torched by opposing centers for the 15-20 minutes Yao is sitting on the bench because Bateer is our backup center, is it worth the $3-4 mil we're saving? No!

Sign a player that can at least play. Sign an Ostertag or a Rebraca or a Doleac. Hell, trade for Derrick Coleman if it gets that bad. Anyone that has shown that they can actually be effective on the court, and not just "cost effective"

How about this - "If we lose games because we get torched by opposing centers for the 15-20 minutes Yao is sitting on the bench because THE-OTHER-GUY-YOU-PICKED is our backup center, is it worth the $10-14 mil we're WASTING?"

Good point, look at the market right now. We r talking about signing someone cheap (not necessary but it will be nice) and short (term).

How do I know? I have seen many trading floors, talked to many traders. Few of them come up with their own strategies.

Who said I am old? Yong talent kick me out of door?

First, Bateer should NOT be our back up center. We need someone to play around 15 quality minutes a game. The person may have to play more minutes if Yao gets into foul trouble. Bateer and Eddie (what are you smoking) Griffin are not good options for center. What's next? Spoon at the 5. We still have our trade exception!!! We can use it for a back-up center or a pg.

Why do you think he cannot play? Do any of those you proposed have a chance against Shaq or a decent starting C? Will they take 1-year contract?

Blount agrees to six-year, $41M deal with Celtics
    LOL!

Also JVG and Ewing can coach/teach him one thing(with Yao's help).

Yao is reaching out to Wang. But Wang is kinda aloof. They may joke when they see each other, but Wang never comes to Yao's invitation for dinner or a get together while he is in Houston. Wang had 4 or 5 year fame ahead of Yao when they were in China. When Yao came out in the Chinese League, the media painted it's Yao vs Wang. Wang took it pretty seriously. Since then, he never got close to Yao.

I don't want to reignite another verbal battle over EG (waste of space) but I would suggest that you look for a backup center amongst players who are STILL in the league.

BTW, welcome to the flipside of the T-Mac trade. Sure, we've got T-Mac but now what are we going to do for a PG, PF & C? When you look at the names of the players that are available, there's just not much quality out there...I have resolved to remain quiet until I see what direction the organization takes in filling these holes. I am hoping that they don't repeat the mistakes of last year (Piatkowski, Griffin) but I am not optimistic.

Justin Brown, the backup centre of Dallas Summer league team looks pretty good to me. Probably we should sign him league minimum as our 3rd string backup centre.

damn, 4 pages of bickering about what should have been agreed to in 1.

Bateer is a huge stiff...we can do better.

Osterfat is going to be a 3-4 million dollar roll of toilet paper. He is good toliet paper, soft and white. Bateer is too coarse (it hurts sometimes) but I might not be able to afford 3-4 million dollar toilet paer because I need to save the money for Big Mac.

If you sign a terra cotta from China for a miillion, he might not be able to play but he will not ruin your chemistry.

I hate people who attack others then tell them to chill over. It's like getting a cheap shot in then declaring argument over.

Bateer started for the Nuggets and was drawing double teams against teams with weak centers, like the Timberwolves. He played against the US Olympic team well two years ago and wasn't in foul trouble in that game, because he knew the system. He'd struggle against quicker teams but at the same time being a good utility player to exploit matchup weaknesses with his brute strength. Decent shooter with range out to three point line if left open. Vet minimum is worth it.
