i'm not a KPJ fan... fool me once and all that... but i wish him nothing but the best... i was very wary about the potential of a guaranteed contract... but this seems like a reasonable option... hopefully they have a 'behind the scenes' deal in the event of a major injury...
Yup, my big reservation was that i wanted to see a good nba season from KPJ. Houston now has 2 full seasons to evaluate him, after which they have a 2/36 team option (16 gar per season plus 2 in likely incentives), then another 1/18 team option. Getting those options for no risk is amazing, and i can't believe Stone pulled it off.
A steal for the Rockets. As much as he's not the best fit with JG, Tari and Bari, he's still a very good talent worthy of giving at least a year of evaluation. If he can improve his 3 and give more assists, he's a keeper. We'll see if his attitude will change for the better.
LOL, improve his 3? To what? He has to be Curry for you think he's a keeper? As is stands, he was the 3rd best 3 point shooter on the team among those who played significant minutes for the team and he took more 3's than anyone but Jalen Green who hit a far worse percentage of them. He could be the EXACT player he was in the final 20 games or so of last season (20/6/5) and he's not just a keeper, but a slight improvement from that would make him hands down an all star.
You've got to think KPJ's agent resisted accepting this deal, likely insisting on at least 2 or even 3 guaranteed years for a young guy who's proven himself to a degree and who still seems to have room for growth as a player. So that tells me that KPJ himself was the one who said, "Let's do it," which means he appreciates the Rox organization salvaging his pro career. He probably also feels (perhaps over-optimistically) that in 3 years, he'll be an established vital cog of a team that will contend for titles for the next half-decade or more, and that he can leverage that for his BIG payday.
So you are bringing insight to the discussion with barking out the most obvious? Do you want a cookie? Were you one of the MENSA members here who liked to jump into this thread with the "where is the extension hee hee" BS? "If he's still a Rocket next season" Hilarious.
Like I said before this is a risk for both sides. Much less risk for the Rockets. If KPJ flames out or goes nuts, the Rockets, at the most have lost 1 season and 16 million. If KPJ balls out this year and shows maturity he may have cost himself 10 million a season with this contract. Either way, to me, this is a win for the Rockets.
I hope you feel better getting all that off your chest, If you felt the need to block me after that one post, I think you are the one that needs therapy because you are the one that's triggered. Why the hell would you bring up suicide? Did you think that was funny, especially in a thread about KPJ? Talk about a lack of self awareness.
Okay, now that I’ve gotten up to speed on this deal, it makes a lot of sense for the rockets. If KPJ can keep his head on straight for 2 yrs he’ll be worth that salary, and if not we can cut him or trade him without hurting our cap. Love it.
Its just too funny when a good portion of these guys joked and laughed all summer and were as toxic as humanly possible and as soon as the tables turned they want civility. You try to turn the page and wake up to a wall of alerts with the same BS. Dudes just want the last word and then paint others as a villain for greeting them with the same energy. Most of the vitriol coming from those who doubted KPJ and hardly coming from anyone on the other side who knew the obstacles and tried to position a strong argument in his favor - it was all "fanboy, cultist, family member" ad hominem attacks galore. This place doesnt enjoy civility it enjoys the pissing contests so Im going in. I want all the smoke now and you bet your last dollar that the very first game this kid struggles you'll see these gremlins jumping around having a pizza party. To the few guys who kept it real in the discussion and were able to voice an opinion without the need for baseless attacks I salute you! Sadly now for me the majority has drowned out the minority so if you get swept up in the wash I apologize in advance.
Just be the bigger man - set an example instead of "Look at me I was right" they know you were....why are you so insecure about it? Let it go, be the bigger man. DD
Yeah its amazing how emotional some get concerning KPJ. I mean you got people actually celebrating because he did not get 20 million as if that means anything.
Dude I tried that! I wrote Jerry McGuire type manifestos on this very thread! Pushed the same thing your are now. All for what? Has nothing to do with insecurity - everyone has their limits. They'll either put me on ignore or I'll get banned whichever comes first. You set a good example for what you preach as well as some other well mannered guys here I admire ya'll for that, but I can only turn the other cheek so many times.
Lol…. The presidents of the KPJ fan club still can’t just move on. This is a great deal for the Rockets and gives KPJ some runway to prove he’s worth the whole guarantee.
Be funny if KPJ wanted this contract to keep him on the righteous path When I was 24 I volunteered to be on probation to the court after they said I didn’t have too for attending rehab. I knew probation was the only thing that would keep me honest for another year. Wouldn’t surprise me if he thinks this contract is a positive for him This is the type of contract I feel like my case worker in rehab would give me if I played in the nba. Like I have to hit maturity milestones before I can have all my money
