Its a great deal for both sides. It's essentially a contract that KPJ has to earn and if he does, theres a ton of money to be made for him. Really glad this deal was done, wanted to see how KPJ/Green backcourt will do next couple of years.
Based on what? One season where we didn’t pay Trevor Ariza 15m to miss threes? The sample size of Tilman as an owner during competitive years is way too small to make such a proclamation. It’s simply not rooted in fact, only emotion and the never ending “f that guy cuz everyone else hates him.”
With the contracts being thrown out it might actually be a bit of a discount. He gets his bag and they get a bit of security if he regresses or has any issues going forward. Great for all involved. Can't wait to see what they look like against the Hawks. P&G vs T&D! Gonna be nice y'all!
This is a great deal. After what Poole and Wiggins got, the Rockets were looking at 28-30 a year if KPJ balled out the way THEY expect him to this year.
Yes, because teams get players to agree to huge nonguaranteed deals all the time. I'm sure lack of trust from the team and options from the player played no part whatsoever in this.
To me this doesn’t look like a $80 mil deal. with trigger date options and a final year team option make this feel more like a $50 mil deal which was always the goal. only $20 mil guaranteed is amazing. KPJ and his agents being realistic is shocking
Morey had his fair share on flopping on picks. Might not be top 5 picks but he still whiffed on those. Biggest one of the top of my head is taking Baby Melo Morris over Kawhi Leonard. Now, thats just back breaking and franchise defining.
Lack of trust from the team??? They could have stood firm and let it play out - wouldnt that be more a sign of lack of trust? Scooter is still banking on himself with this deal and when the dead money clears if he's exceeded expectations (as some of us expected) then I wouldnt be surprised for him to get a raise. Its not emotions -- its simple economics. What incentive did the team have to get a deal done?
Fair price. I personally hate losing the ~10 million in cap space that could have come from keeping him an RFA until reaching terms with a 2023 free agent, but it's understandable that this approach is frowned upon in a player-empowerment era, and the 2023 free agent crop is thin anyways. Partial guarantees is a big win.
Stone laid the smackdown in negotiations…this is abuse this is the type of deal u take when your options are very limited…barely guaranteed and a team option…agreed to right before the deadline too
You know KPJ may not have been lying when he said the Rockets helped saved his life and career. There may be some loyalty there. The pessimist in me also says he may have been looking at the scouts reports that have come out saying he isn't a starting PG, but I like to think it is the loyalty part.
Yeah KPJ has some pretty good agents, like I said in anither thread its unlikely he gets paid in open market he might have been left out to dry like what happened to Schroder. It might also be possible KPJ was given the option of cheaper contract but fully guaranteed or larger deal but unguaranteed. Either way I think this is a good deal for both sides. People here keep saying cut the deal to pay someone the max in 2023 but who will the rox pay? LMAO unless its Giannis or Luka I dont want a max free agent. I'd rather Fertita uses that capspace for more assets or frontload contracts so the team pays less in future years.
You should do a poll on it. Have an option for other. Imagine it would be pretty entertaining. Even @King1 could share his thoughts. LOL
