Who's better, Correa or Turner? Even? Might as well keep Turner? I assume both will want big contracts. Add Bogaerts, he'll be cheaper than the 2 right? Also what's better, 1 year of Kershaw or a multi year big money for Verlander? Who else is there?....maybe some tampering will happen. Someone will promise a big deal for Arenado if he opts out.
I mean too little data to know if any of it is noise. The Phillies bats were just lit for most of that series except game 2. But all the other series were just good games with clutch hits and pitching in spots. Rust doesn't seem the most likely reason.
Dodgers and Yankees both won the 1st games of their series - it had nothing to do with being rusty. It's just baseball. Cleveland was the hottest team in baseball anyway, having closed on a 24-6 run over the last month (including dominating all their other division contenders).
Dodgers and Yankees just winging it with the back end of their bullpens costing them both. Clay Holmes is officially on record as wondering why he wasn't used in tonight's game. You need a defined setup man and closer. And only a couple of guys who rotate in and out for the 7th inning and occasionally the 8th. Astros have that formula. Padres are riding it all the way to the NLCS.
Nationals beat us with a closer-by-committee. The Astros won it while benching their closer and using a variety of starters to close out games and series. There are lots of ways to win in baseball.
Man what will Juan Soto's contract be? If Judge going to try to push for super high this off seasonand J-Rod just got that crazy deal.
Scene: Camera pans in. Padres, Astros, Phillies or Yankees/Guardians have won the World Series. Team is on the stage as Commissioner Rob Manfred walks up with the trophy. Manfred: I would like to thank [insert winning team] and [insert losing team] for a hard fought series. Both teams played well, and represented what Major League Baseball is all about. Audience claps and cheers. Manfred: With that said, I award the 2022 Championship Trophy to the 2022 NLDS losers, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I mean, that's the case in nearly every game. Mariner's fans will tell you they could have easily won all 3 games but reality disagrees with that. That first game although amazing was still based on The Astros depth and star power. They didn't just get hot towards the end and miraculously just started winning miracle games. Every game was pitched insanely well minus Verlander which in its way was an anomaly. The Astros unlike The Braves, Dodgers and Mets withstood the over achieving team with pure talent and experience. They took the Mariner's best shot every game and did not move an inch. Today's game was not just a we barely won, Astros were visitors and no matter what they went 8 innings without able to give up a single run or they lose. That's pressure and The Astros as a team stood strong with some great great pitching until our young star could end it. Astros clearly took every single game and did what ever it took to get The W..... They are a well oiled machine right now running on auto.
I mean if the Astros beat the Mariners, Indians, and say the Padres -- all franchise that have never won or with a long drought, the Stros would really become the biggest bully on the block.
Just stopping by to say how good yuli and penea been in the playoffs. Yordan is a given… but those two were huge and honestly I didn’t expect yuli to be this good after the miserable season he’s had this year. Resilient !!!!
Exactly. It's about being a complete team and having multiple ways to win games and series. The Astros have minimal holes right now. As much as people whine about 7-9 hitters, that the very small hole in a very deep team. Plus Both Mancini and Vasquez are still power threats. Phillies and Padres needed their stars to play like stars and some contributions from other guys. Astros just swept a good team with Altuve, Tucker and JV basically doing little.
I don't understand why those teams simply avoided getting upset by winning some games. Sounds like a skill issue to me.
