Go back and watch the first period he got the touches, he couldn't do anything with it because Miami packs the lane. That's why Hollins was going on about "boxes and elbows" etc.

Guy needs a three point shot badly. He's more likely to develop that then grow longer arms or leaping ability.

When did he get touches in the post? He literally was high screening and rolling the whole time. Got a few offensive boards. They never once put him in the post. They fed him on a couple rolls.

Why should they feed him the ball when KPJ and Jalen were scorching hot?

Wow so now people are turning on Sengun?

    After 1 preseason game?

    This place continues to amaze.

No the Rockets did not run any Dwight style low post isos for him. Though again, Miami sells out hard to deny the paint, so good luck with that.

If that's the game he has to play, he's going to have to get better as he's been a middle of the road post player at best (like literally - he's 50.9 percentile last year on post plays).

Jaesean Tate is actually the best on the team at that kind of scoring.

I believe Stats show that Sengun was the most efficient In the league out of the post. It’s been posted in this forum over and over. He had a bad game. Get over it.

The problem with Sengun, which was the same problem last season, is that he is almost ineffective outside of the post area due to his lack of range. He is a decent roll man, but his lack of burst and NBA level athleticism / size limits him. On defense, it's basically the same story. He compensates with his high BBIQ, but at the end of the day that can only go so far. Until he improves his range from either midrange or 3pt line, he's not good enough to become a focus of our offense. At least, he's not good enough to turn Green or even KPJ into orbiters on the wing.

Trade him while he still has some value.
    #FreeSengun

“The Rockets have been their best during training camp, practices and even Sunday’s game against the Spurs when running pick-and-roll, often with Bruno Fernando rim-running.”

“Lucas said Sengun is a “smarter,” more confident player than as a rookie. But Lucas added, “If we stop the play to run through him, it would take away from the other strengths as a whole.”

“Eventually, the Rockets would like Sengun to fit in five-out offenses. For now, there is a problem with trying that.”

“Still, the Rockets' offense likely will be at its best if Porter and Green are as effective as they were to close last season…”

“Got to get Al-P going at some point,” Rockets assistant coach John Lucas said.

“We’re asking Al-P to do something that he hasn’t done before. Right now, basically, he’s a roll guy in what we’re doing, and we don’t go through him. You can’t expect a 20-year-old to be happy about that. We have to find a common ground from him to get the most out of him and I think we can do that.”

Sengun prefers touches in the low post where he can be an effective scorer or passer. The Rockets would like Sengun to be on the receiving end of pick-and-roll passes and passes off other drives, as with his first shot on Monday. Sengun had 13 points and three assists in the preseason opener, making 5 of 6 shots against the Spurs.

“I’m spending more time with him to help him be successful,” Lucas said. “It’s not set up for him to be a primary scorer right now.”

The Rockets ran their offense through guards Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. who combined for 46 points and 11 assists, each playing 28 minutes and playing, Lucas said, exactly as the Rockets wanted. Asked how to have the backcourt play as it did on Monday and still get Sengun going, Lucas laughed and said he’d let Rockets coach Stephen Silas handle that when he is cleared from NBA health and safety protocols.

“The good news is I don’t have to worry about that,” Lucas said. “We’re off (Tuesday.) Coach will be doing that Wednesday. We’ll try to figure that out and show Al-P what it is. It’s a big sacrifice for him.”

    I agree.

But this is DMO all over again. This is not what the NBA or team needs at this point. We have green & smith

Lucas doesn’t care whether Alpy gets going or not, he doesn’t care if the team is losing to 3rd stringers or not, as long as the guards get theirs. FIRE LUCAS.

At this point Al P is likely to be traded as he just doesn't fit, and he doesn't seem to have worked on his weaknesses of 3pt shooting and midrange shooting.

He is not in the CORE MUST KEEP group - the best we could hope for is for him to develop like Scola - but so far, he wants to bang in the post as an undersized, slow footed, below average athlete.

We don't even need both 3pt and midrange, just a consistent jumper from ONE of the ranges. Then he would be exponentially more effective off that high pick and roll.

True, but both would be nice.

It is weird to draft a Euro big who can't shoot.

Whomever trained him did him a disservice by not expanding his game.

Sengun also needs to get stronger. He was manhandled by the Heats backup bigs. Imagine what Bam would have done to him? The good part is that getting stronger should be easier than becoming a 'good' 3 point threat. His lateral quickness is also an issue if he's going to revert back to being a foul machine.

You don’t have to imagine, Sengun started vs Bam in the Miami game last year, Bam didn’t do anything to him.

If Sengun gets traded he will cook this team every time he plays us that’s for sure.

No he won't because the low post game is practically dead.

Yeah, he has to be able to shoot outside of the low post to be relevant.
