Younger Draymond was better, his game has regressed and he got bigger injuries now. Bigger ego as well.
They treat Green as if he was the co-coach on that team along with Kerr, so the comparison should be more that your coworker has a boss, who is about to be getting paid less than said co-worker. Video kinda helps them at reducing Green's outsized ego down to earth using the public outcry/criticism and with time possibly improving team's chemistry (ie fewer egos clashing). In a way, GSW are lucky again. That is if they play it right and do issue a punishment while telling Green that it's needed for PR purposes, but really doing it so that Poole is happy. They wouldn't have punished Green if the video didn't leak and then Poole's revenge would've been a festering issue all season for them.
I don't think that punch ever connected, although Shaq immediately put Charles in a headlock (lol), and when that altercation happened, they weren't playing for the same team. Who knows? Maybe Poole will forgive. But this situation and the Charles/Shaq situation, is entirely different.
Not everyone mellows out as they get older. Draymond even in practice can't keep his emotion in check. If someone is a co-leader, an org should expect more (not less). Few fallouts: 1. Meyers, Kerr and the GSW org took an image hit at how they handle to the sweep under the rug. They seem to be more worry about the leaker than the perpetrator. Even if these things are 'normal' to the GSW, (and maybe NBA). People outside the NBA sees the sucker punch like WTF. 2. Draymond's contract negotiation. His leverage gone out the window. Man fumbled his next bag. 3. How refs officiate Draymond in future games. He already walked a fine line between playing 'scrappy' vs playing dirty. No doubt the refs has seen the viral clip and might subconsciously be biased in the future. Is Green a loose canon. If things heat up in a game, does the ref dispense a tech sooner than later; throw him out of a game before situation escalates.
Yup he isn't good enough IMO as a player, he is an excellent leader when his head is on straight but he is too unpredictable and emotional.
Remember, someone FROM the org leaked this, and it took two days, so that someone must have spent enough time to thoroughly consider the positives. Or it could be from a low-ranking staff who sold out and never cared about any consequences? Agree Green sucker punch is much worse, with vicious intention. Does "discipline internally" always sound like "go easy and sweep under the rug" for outsiders? Is it safe to assume internal discipline can never be as fair as public discipline?
Steve Kerr today on if the leak is more serious than the actual incident: “I’m concerned about both. They are both a problem. The incident is a problem, the leak is a problem. I don’t rank these things. My job as a coach is to prepare us to play..that is made much trickier when there is a leak.”
[The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone]Do you feel like you are a part of New Media? Pat Bev: “I don’t know. I’m not out here punching people.”
If Green wasn't born tall and athletic, he'd be working at McDonald's. Dumb as a box of rocks and emotionally mature as an 8th grade girl.
Not sure if he's actually dumb or if his immaturity makes him appear dumb, but he'd probably be in prison because he can't control his emotions.
If he wasn't born tall and athletic he wouldn't be this immature cuz he'd get the **** beaten out of him every time he acted up.
