I really respect cuban for taking time to write all this. I thought he was just a crazy billionaire fool. Props to him.
"He obviously wasn’t my favorite person at the time, and I asked him when this Suns meeting got setup. He told me they had called that morning. I said there was no way, and he said, no wait, they called late last night. There was nothing more to our conversation than that. That said it all. I wonder how much he told the Suns we were offering Steve." Doesn't it sound like Duffy totally played Cuban and the favs. Tried to pin the highest number Dallas would go for than bringing that to the Suns to edge over. Really quite shameless--I kinda feel bad for the Dallas fans/Mavs, normally the current team gets that benefit.
Cuban's Blog is a load of horsesh*t. NOW he wants to be careful and thoughtful when giving out contracts? Where was this Mark Cuban 2 years ago when he was flushing away money on the likes of Shawn Bradley and Rafe LaFrenz? This blog amounts to nothing more than mere spin control. It's really quite simple: Nash left the Mavs for more money but also because he felt slighted by the Mavs and Cuban. He was not happy last year because of Cuban's flirtation with Jason Kidd. The guy is virtually indespensible to their offense and is a top 5 guard but you's never know it from listening to Cuban and the others rip his lack of athleticism while true sh*t players like Bradley are well paid for doing absolutely nothing. This year when Shaq came into play, all he heard was that he was certain to be a part of any proposed trade for Shaq. Phoenix saw an opening and jumped on it, end of story. Now the Mavs join the Rockets as both teams do not have point guards and what's available out in the FA there is nothing to get really excited about.
cuban can spin it however he likes...the fact remains, the dallas mavericks are a better team with steve nash than without steve nash. finally, i agree with hillboy on something!
Ditto. I'm not the biggest Cuban fan but you have to appreciate that guys approachability and openess. Sidenote, I love how all these successful business people have their personal rules, referring to Cuban's once I walk out of the door with an offer in a big deal, I'm done.
really interesting read. for the folks whining its Cuban's spin ... duh?? its written by Cuban. can't help thinking the Suns stuck their neck waay out on this deal. but sometimes that works.
Cuban never said he was going to trade Nash. Dallas has never even talked to the Lakers. Also, Cuban was never interested in Jason Kidd last year. The media always thinks Dallas is involved any time a big name free agent is available even if the two teams never speak. As for Bradley, his contract is not really that bad. Four million dollars is how much a center costs these days. Look at how much Adonal Foyle and Mehmet Okur are getting this year. As for Dallas, I don't believe they are actively looking for a point guard. They have Daniels, Harris, Delk and Avery Johnson so I don't think another point guard will fit on the team.
