We should tank again. We’ve gotten the 2nd pick and the third math says we should now get the 1st!

If Durant misses games you may have a few more lottery balls this year....

If you don't think the players & coaches have been trying to win the last two years .... then you have a screw or two loose.
They just haven't have a lot of talent on the floor .....

Dude you think someone's gonna be handing out unprotected picks like they are candy ?? .... Forget it, any picks you get are going to be at least "lottery protected".

And on top of that screwing up the $55-$75m in cap space for next year .... Hard No.

Last year's team really looked ready to tank from Day One.

This year's team not so much. Stone's put together a pretty solid roster. Even if the players are young and inexperienced, there's a good balance. And it looks like they'll actually run plays and play defense this season LOL.

Should be fun to watch. But on the downside, the Rockets might end up winning too many games and playing themselves out of a high lottery pick.

I mean do you think it would end when the rockets don't have a draft pick? when the 4 first-round picks are in their 3rd years and Eason/Jabari are in their second years?? I don't understand your post. They have max cap space next offseason. again don't have their pick it goes to OKC. so why the hell would you tank at all then? you wouldn't you probably sign a vet or trade for one that fills a need is a winning player and take the experience you have gained the last 2-3 seasons and STOP TANKING.

this sir is not complicated in my opinion.

We'll know by the 30th game whether to tank or actually coach to win..

I think the coaches will be trying to win the first 30 games. The schedule is murderous, so if they get anywhere near 500 say 12-18 they will try and win all year. If it is worse, they will be start to manage their rotations to lose.

the rox should laugh at them because this team is too good to tank. like cf legend @Cutty312 once said, “hear me out, we’re winning a championship”

We are a bottom-5 team in terms of talent (OKC, Spurs, Utah, Indy), so it won’t take that much effort to have a bottom-3 record.

We should do the following things:
    • Secure the best odds for the draft. Last year we are in control of our pick, let’s make it count. Bench/trade the vets, play the rookies, rest our top talent if needed.
    • Trade for a young star if the opportunity arises (eg SGA, Anunoby), play them 5-10 games, then rest them. We risk losing our expiring contracts for nothing and we may not have enough (expiring) salary to use in trades next year, so this is a good year to make a move with the Nets draft picks.
    • Be open to taking on bad contracts for good picks, if these contracts don’t go past 2024 (eg Hayward, Lowry, Hield, Fournier, Kennard), and as long as this still leaves us max space for summer 2023.
Adding a top 2023 draft pick, a star via trade, and a max in 2023 FA, alongside organic development of Green/Jabari/Sengun/Tari/Josh/KPJ will make us a contender for years to come.

Silas - Stone joint interview had neither saying wins would be the barometer
for success this season. They both said being competitive on both sides
of the court is the goal.

So 3 quarters of hard play only to lose it in the 4th seems likely.

Wembanyama played well....still not sold on Henderson. Saw him abuse
a guy that looked like Ty Lue. Big deal. Josh Christopher would average
34 points per game in the G-league.

No need to tank for a Josh Christopher .....we already have that.

There'll be teams that's going to be almost impossible to out tank, but Rockets better not try to move up a seed or two at the end of the season if they're already a bottom 5 team. We're talking about the best prospect since Lebron and the next prospect after that has a chance to be special too. This is the last reasonable chance Rockets can build through the draft using their own pick and the 2023 free agents suck.

While I disagree with the underlying premise (screw trying to improve the team long term in the path that requires the least amount of luck, I'm impatient, and will take a scrap now over a steak later), developing the young players is likely worth more than 1 in 15 chance at Wemby (and the improved odds for Scott, etc.).

It isn't just Wemby though. Scooter Henderson is very likely to be an all star very early on and there are 4-5 other players that would be top 3 picks in most drafts. This draft is the best one in years.

Also worth saying... when all of your future best players are 21 and under you don't need to go out of your way to be a bottom team.

What's the point in beating the bottom feeders when you can't beat the top?
