http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2561396 The Los Angeles Clippers will meet with Kobe Bryant sometime this week, but they aren't the only team interested in the NBA's most coveted free agent. The Denver Nuggets, the San Antonio Spurs — and the Lakers — will make a run at signing Bryant, according to the Los Angeles Times. The report, citing sources in Denver, said Bryant and his agent met Monday with Nuggets' GM Kiki Vandeweghe at Bryant's home in Newport Beach, Calif. What's more, sources close to Bryant have reportedly said meetings with the Spurs are scheduled for this week. Denver, San Antonio and the Clippers can likely offer Bryant a six-year contract worth roughly $100 million. The Lakers, on the other hand, can offer the richest deal at seven seasons for $130 million. Clippers' GM Elgin Baylor said Thursday a meeting has been set up with Bryant, who opted out of his contract two weeks ago to become an unrestricted free agent. "It will be soon, I can't tell you exactly when," Baylor said of the meeting. "We intend to talk to Kobe to go through all specifics, see what he has in mind. He's friendly with a couple players here. He likes our team from what I understand from his agent. We're willing to do whatever it takes to get Kobe." Free agents are not allowed to sign with other teams until July 14. And with Bryant at the top of these teams' wish lists, it is hard to predict which team he intends to sign with. "My guess is Kobe will survey the landscape and that would justifiably include the coach, players, the organization," Lakers' GM Mitch Kupchak told the Times. "To what degree, how heavily weighted one issue will be over another, I don't know."
not to re-hash, but if a team signs him, and he is convicted, are they obligated to pay or what? If I was a GM, I'd want the contract that way, but if I'm Kobe, I wouldn't...
