Minor inconvenience saves thousands of lives per year.

I've never carried a gun on my person in my life. Kind of ridiculous I have to go through metal detectors.

That's really sad. My mother's side of the family was always on the big AA kick, so drinking was taboo (didn't stop me), but no one drank themselves to death. My father's side of the family is pretty straight-edge, with him being the 'black sheep' and doing some prison time when he was younger but not really a drinker.

I guess I just haven't had the life experiences you had. Even my friends and women I've dated haven't had those massive alcohol issues. I guess the closest I've seen is my sister's in-laws, who are all of Irish descent and lean into it at family gatherings, getting shitfaced, but as far as I know no one has died of it.

    Agreed.

Interesting that we somewhat do this for Bars now
but never gonna happen for gun dealers

    I can see that helping

People will say THROWING MONEY AT IT won't solve it
yet be willing to commit to paying for 20 yrs of room and board for a prisoner
Hard to do when we are so PRO mar1juana legalization

As someone who plays music in praise of alcohol I still can sympathize with this. As a society we do have many problems and alcohol is one of them. I respect you and anyone else who is willing to step away and keep out of that culture.

Still though I am dead set against prohibition and think it will lead to far more problems and also that I think that alcohol is an important part of human culture. What we need though is proper perspective and restraint and responsibility. Unfortunately American culture isn’t really know for those things.

What do you mean “plays music in praise of alcohol”?

I’m honestly not against drinking in the slightest. I’m against abuse. When I drank, I really appreciated quality wines, different liquors and a plethora of beers. I actually love the taste of it.

I just knew I didn’t want to to give my self the chance to become what so many in my family became.

Breathalyzers installed in each car is absurd. Most responsible people don't require that. @deb4rockets props for the thread. This needs to be addressed. As I said, throw the book at these idiots

It's a lame excuse to drive drunk because we don't have mass transit around the suburbs. All you have to do is have one person in your group be a designated driver, or if nobody can have fun without getting drunk, then pitch in together for a Uber or cab.

It's hard to change a culture of people that drink at every occasion. I remember when I was a kid our birthday parties were for kids. Now I see a new generation of people turning a kid's birthday into an adult drinkfest that lasts late into the night. It's just any excuse to party, then load up the family and hit the road drunk, from a party, a bbq, the beach, or anywhere else. There is no excuse for it, period, if your desire to drink puts other innocent people at risk because you chose to get behind the wheel. Drink at home, pay for an Uber or cab, or just don't drink when you drive.

The laws don't prevent people from doing this over and over, especially those who can afford the fines, or will just drive without a license. The only way to get those types of the road is to put them through mandatory rehab, and lock them up for a second offense. Nothing else is working or stopping those types from getting back behind the wheel drunk.

100% accurate. More of our community should care about this. It's a serious problem.

I play in a band the plays a lot of Irish music and a lot of that is about alcohol and drinking.

And that’s good and what I mean by moderation and responsibility.

You’re in the Pogues? Or using that as a reference?
