I know OT, he lives in Austin or did a couple of years ago. We had season tickets to the Austin Toros when they were associated with the Rockets, before the RGV deal, I sat next to OT for a couple of years - it was amazing talking to him about the Rockets, the championship year, and what he thought overall. He was also addicted to Golf so we talked a lot about that. Happy Birthday OT - miss seeing you at the games. DD
I was just a fan of OT. Was a great compliment to Dream. If we woild have gotten Clyde earlier that would have been nice, but it is what it is. Clyde definitely helped with the 2nd ring, but the team was damn good as it was. No way in hell would I have traded Cassell and Horry for Barkley. That was just stupid. Right up there with changing to the ridiculous pajamas rt in the middle of a repeat.
IMO, from what I watched and saw, Dream and OT just didn’t mesh well on court. OT rose up when he was in and Dream sat.
This is not an indictment of either. Dream was surreal and OT was starter material anywhere, a pro’s pro. However, they just didn’t excel as we all could have ‘dreamt’ on the court. Regrets.
He definitely was more involved in the offense when Dream sat. No question. Dream dominated the touches and rightfully so. Having OT in there when Dream sat was huge. Big impact on the game. I'm a fan of Clyde without a doubt and I don't think it was a bad trade, I just thought the team in 93/94 had great balance. Finished the season 2nd in wins. They were only going to get better and better as Horry and Cassell were only in there 1st and 2nd seasons respectively. Now trading for Barkley was just stupid. We'll never know how many more rings that core group could have eventually won. Baffling.
Horry’s relationship with the FO was questionable; Sammy’s relationship with Dream was reportedly shot (sic). The Barkley trade has to looked back upon from the perspective of Willis and Brent oh, dadgum, whatshisface, who was finally fitting in when he kneed his way to oblivion in mid season (Jan?)..
Thinking of Brent Price. Definitely not his brother, but way better than say Maloney. Was a big fan of Kevin Willis. Brought a lot of what we lost trading OT. Definitely brought the lunch pail everyday. Sux egos and attitudes can get in the way of a great thing. Such is life.
gee, who could forget uh uh B Price. Seriously, finally was looking good. Didn’t last long, regrets. And Chuckles couldn’t convince The Mayor to exit retirement.
I thought I recall some "lockerroom lawyer" comment from somebody with regards to OT during that time, but maybe I'm misremembering.
