Holy crap it's getting killed in reviews and online. Talking fetuses, dumbing down Marilyn to someone with just daddy issues, drowning a kid and rape all in the first half of the movie, tragedy to tragedy with little else in between ugh.

I obsoletely hate the casting of this movie, Ana De Armas? Are you serious? They should have casted Danai Gurira and done it right from the start...

Apparently this is one of the most tone-deaf, misogynistic movies in recent history.

It's important to note that this is not a biopic of MM. It's adapted from a novel.

Couldn't finish, legit one of the worst movies I have ever tried to watch, at least amongst serious films that thought they were doing something good.

It is so consistently unpleasant to watch. Aside from the constant bleak subject matter I found the entire filmmaking style to be bad. Maybe not poor on a technical level..just unpleasant.

After about 20 minutes only the prospect of Ana de Armas tiddies allowed me to persevere but not for much longer.

Ana de Armas is one of the finest creatures on the planet but still not enough to get me to watch this movie.

It's awful. Truly awful. How they got Ana de Armas to star in it is a mystery to me. As for the Venice Film Festival, I've been to Venice more than once and when it isn't in the middle of the tourist season, the ancient city is incredible. The taste of the judges of the film festival, however, is inexplicably bad. Certainly in this case.

I watched half of it last night. I'm still trying to digest it. It's not great but I don't think it was awful. More like a cautionary tale with a very, very lovely woman at the center.

Where the problem lies with this movie, IMO, is there's very little good or happiness in Norma Jean's life to ground the story. It's like we're watching an out of body experience from beginning to end (or at least middle).

It's difficult watching someone so beautiful and sympathetic flounder in virtually all facets of their life. I'm not sure that that's an entirely accurate portrayal. But considering how her life turned out, maybe it's not too far off. :(

Sounds like the best outcome of watching this movie is that one way or another you will be miserable.

It's a weird comparison but I likened the experience to watching Passion of the Christ, where you've been watching pain and suffering for nearly 3 hours.

The book its based on is considered fiction, so the story feels like there is no real point to the whole thing outside of having the worst possible things happen to the central character.....

My wife really wanted to watch it but after I told her about a handful of things that happen she lost any desire to watch the movie.....

Crazy mother tries to drown her, she's raped, abused within the first hour and that's before we get to POV abortions, talking fetus begging to not be aborted, a nearly 2 min POV forced blowjob which I'm honestly surprised Armas agreed to because it's a pretty ugly scene......
