Nixon was not extremely partisan, he went against his party on China and the EPA.

And Nixon unlike DeSantis was doing things because he thought they were right not to cater to a group of people.

Yeah, he sought to exploit divisions, but that had been happening forever.

Biden is currently doing the same thing.

DeSantis has taken measures to combat climate change and protect the environment in FL also while Nixon exploited the idea of The Silent Majority and preyed upon fears of race riots and the counter culture in his time. They both have mixed and complicated records but built their careers on being very partisan.

There are some other similarities besides just political. Both appear to dislike the glad handing and personal nature of politics. They are also very combative and have a vengeful streak.

Yeah Desantis has done some stuff on climate change but he is and once to be known as owning the libs and doing **** to piss of the libs showing he is trying to be very partisan, its his brand.

You can't say the same about Nixon who actually did huge things while crossing over.

He created an entire new branch of gov to combat pollution, while DeSantis is pulling stuff like this currently.

Jul 29, 2022 — Ron DeSantis wants to bar state from considering climate change in investments. By News Service of Florida on Fri, Jul 29, 2022 at 10:22 am.

I really think you are short selling what Nixon actually did as president while ignoring what Desantis is currently doing.

What has he done that you think he deserves so much credit?

LOL, did he really say stop politicizing something.

His entire shtick is to try and politicize everything.

Your crush on DeSantis is just bizarre.

I’ve been giving him credit for his preparation for this hurricane. This is a record storm and we’ll see how things go in the next few days but I’m pretty sure if he hadn’t prepared it would be much worse. On the bipartisan side his administration appears to be working very well with Biden’s to deal with this.

None of this means that I don’t recognize he is an extreme partisan who is divisive and wastes state resources on stunts to own the libs. I don’t think Crist will win but sent his campaign some money after DeSantis’ Vineyard stint.

He’s not exactly Nixon but I do think that is the closest comparison.

I think it is right to give DeSantis credit for his handling of the hurricane.

Very fool people are all good or all bad. It might lessen the polarization the tiniest bit if we were able to give credit to politicians on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Yes I just gave DeSantis and Biden credit for how well they appear to be working together to deal with the hurricane.

I will say one criticism and frustration with DeSantis. It looks like he spent over $1 million in total on that stunt to send migrants to Marthas Vineyard and an empty plane to Delaware. That money could be helping FL residents with recovery and given he did the stunts during Hurricane season DeSantis should've considered that there was a good chance a major storm would hit FL.

Budget wise that $1,000,000 was earmarked for getting rid of unauthorized immigrants from Florida, so technically it couldn't be used for other things.

Humanitarianly, I suspect it could have

This literally makes no sense. She's talking about complacency amongst the residents evacuating due to not having experience from hurricane threats. His response makes no sense because the reporter framed the question wrong and he jumped the gun on answering.

Well considering he didn’t actually move unauthorized immigrants out of Florida there appears some flexibility with that spending.

I suspect that was the reason the plane stopped in Florida before heading to MV.

DeSantis was opposed to handing out relief when natural disasters hit blue states, but now that it's in his state he wants relief.
