http://www.nba.com/playerfile/carlos_arroyo/index.html?nav=page Arroyo have good numbers in 27 mins a game, and he doesnt play more because they have to develope their 1st round plck raul lopez from spain Less $$$ than barry and hudson much better skils than fisher
Anybody feel that backup center is a more urgent need than PG at this point. We are going to start the season with 4 PG's on the roster but no center. How about Foyle, Blount or Divac as a higher priority need than PG.
More urgent need not more important. Just saying that we have 4 point guards on the roster, one of which started 69 games last season for Orlando and I don't think Yao has proven he can go 40 minutes day in and day out necessitating a solid backup. I wouldn't want to start opening day without another center on the roster as opposed to having say Foyle on the roster and going with Lue as out PG.
I think that Charly Ward would be a great match for the Rockets. He knows coach's system and is a gamer. He always shows up. His cap price would not hurt either. Jim in Vermont
I don't know why people are discussing Charlie Ward as a potental PG starter for Houston. The guy has simply lost his touch. He's slow, can't shoot, been sitting on the bench for the better part of this century. Yes days are over. Why are people still discussing him? I really like Derek Fisher. He may not be the most talented and athletic PG on the market, but the guy sure knows how to win. He also hits the big shots when you need him. Did I also mention that he can play some solid defense as well? Arroyo is not bad either.
Snow would fit perfectly in Houston. In Van Gundy's system, he's a 10-assist man. Barry's a fantastic player, but he's no point guard. Fisher is another guy who would thrive in JVG's regimented system. Lue is pretty underrated, though. He's not an All-Star, but he's a capable player. I think it would be a waste of resources for the Rockets to pursue any more guards. They need frontcourt depth -- with Howard and Taylor playing essentially identical games, neither provides any real muscle inside.
$24 mil over 4 years is not cheap for a 32-year old combo guard, but if Barry wants to play for us, I'll welcome his well-rounded game, good free-throw and 3-point percentage, and entertaining flair, which should be a pleasure to watch alongside McGrady and Yao. I'm still a Fisher proponent for our system, but if Barry stays healthy through age 36 when he's still making big bucks with us, I expect to have plenty of fun rooting for him. Free throw percentage is one of the most important pet stats to me for a point guard for our team, because I'm thinking about titles, and it's a dagger in closing out opponents if your primary ball handler is automatic from the line, particularly come playoff time. If Steve Nash (and the rest of the Mavs to boot) weren't such good free throw shooters, it wouldn't have taken us so many games to finally get our first win with Yao against them this past season. I think anything less than about 75% for your 4th quarter PG is pretty much unacceptable. Barry's at 82% career, so he's solid there. I think Tony Parker may be one of the few starting PG's to play in the Finals in the past decade or so who didn't make the 75% cut. (But then the entire Spurs team is somewhat odd in that they have been very bad from line, even the two years that they won their titles. In fact, I can't think of a worse free throw shooting champ in the past couple of decades, but I very well may be forgetting someone? That's yet another testament to just what a force Duncan has been, that they've been so successful despite being bad at the line as a team.)
Latest on Barry: Seattle guard Brent Barry is said to have the Spurs at the top of his wish list, and San Antonio -- clearly in need of better perimeter shooting after blowing a 2-0 series lead over the Lakers in the second round -- might decide to let Turkoglu go to pursue Barry. Re-signing Ginobili remains the Spurs' top priority this summer ... barring the fantasy of Bryant telling San Antonio he wants to leave Shaquille O'Neal to play alongside Tim Duncan. Adding Barry and retaining Ginobili and defensive specialist Bruce Bowen would qualify as a strong off-season haul for the Spurs, but Houston has strong interest in Barry as well. The Rockets also have the added edge of Tracy McGrady -- who shares agent Arn Tellem with Barry -- to help with recruiting. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?id=1834831 This is according to Marc Stein so who really knows.
I want Steve Francis and I don't see anybody for this team in PG Steve is the WARRIOR with all games ... When I get to know that Steve was devoted, I cried .... Steve 4 life Sorry for my eanglish .... I from Poland, so ....
Nice find, hooroo. Interesting note on Barrett- He was a freshman teammate of Eddie Griffin. He was NOT the one Griffin punched (that was Ty Shine). The rumor at the time was there was tension between the upperclassmen (Shine, et. al) and the talented lowerclass (Griffin, Barrett, Dalembert, Toney-El et. al). Change of pace, eh JVG? Like a change of pace from the 6-6 PG? I see that role on this team already filled by Lue, so I don't expect to see Barrett here. Satterfield may be an NBA talent. He has good size for a PG (6-3) and was a key cog on a good Cincinatti team (the K-Mart one).
Philly wants Sheed. They'd need as much of the Rox' TE as possible to make a real run at him. Might Philly 'overpay' in a deal to be able to secure it?
