The NBA is a progressive arena, and I am not making a judgment on that as there is both good and bad. However, I find this decision by the Celtics to be rather odd for a number of reasons. First, I find it odd that the head coach of an NBA apparently continued sleeping around with women within the organization after being told to stop and then he apparently harassed Mrs. Lynch. So, extra marital sex is not illegal and is common, but I have to question why an organization would want to have someone that has shown such terrible judgment, after being warned; as the head coach of the team. If he is willing to violate "a number" of company rules, and sleep with the wife of the VP and also continue the behavior - he lacks the judgment to be the teams head coach. So why wasn't he simply fired or bought out of his contract? At this point, he has shown terrible judgment and suspending him for an entire year doesn't help his standing within the organization or with his players. The Celtics have set this up to be a mess. They have given the team to another coach that has a checkered background. Whenever the team struggles fans will call for the return of Udoka. If the Celtics play well, they will still have Udoka's situation being back in the media whenever they finally let him go. If the Celtics bring Udoka back, then every time a player has off the court issues involving sexual misconduct, the Udoka situation will be brought back up and how can he comment on his players transgressions if he was suspended a year for his actions. They should have quickly fired him if they were going to go this route. In fact, they ideally would have done this before now. The Celtics front office and ownership can talk about ethical considerations, but they need to remember that whenever they have a player involved in misconduct of this sort.
Yeah, a lot of this does not make much sense, but we probably should wait to get a clearer picture, there is no way he could be seen as harassing any female especially under these circumstances and still have a job or even a hope for a job.
https://www.tmz.com/2022/09/23/celt...ia-long-blindside-affair-moved-family-boston/ Nia Long says she's gonna need all the support she can get after getting blindsided by her fiance, Celtics Coach Ime Udoka ... who we've learned kept her in the dark about his affair, even though the team busted him months ago. Sources connected to the team and the couple tell TMZ ... Nia had moved to Boston with Kez, her 10-year-old son with Ime, just 2 weeks ago, and the couple was house hunting. The sad twist for Nia is that when she moved, Ime was already fully aware his affair with a married front office staffer was about to blow up. We're told Ime knew way back in July the team was aware of the affair, and was launching an investigation. Meanwhile, we're told Nia only found out about it in the last few days ... and only because Ime knew it was about to go public. Nia tells TMZ, through her rep Shannon Barr ... "The outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community during this difficult time means so much to me. I ask that my privacy be respected as I process the recent events. Above all, I am a mother and will continue to focus on my children."
Exactly. Fire him and get someone else. Instead they suspend him an entire year so that this will hang over the franchise all season and then next year they will have to deal with it all again. Just say something self serving like your team respects the rights of women and men to be free of sexual harassment in the work place and as a result regrettably the Celtics have relieved Ime Udoka of his coaching duties and employment with the Boston Celtics...... pay him his contractual guarantees and move on.
I have heard in the past that Udoka and Long had an open relationship. So my guess is that she isn't so angry he slept with someone else, but that he was so irresponsible about it, that it went public and now she and her son have to deal with it.... and that he knew it would be an issue and didn't let her know she could get ahead of the problem.
We don't know everything that went into this. They hired a lawfirm to do the investigation and make recommendations. There could be more here that we don't know about that led to the decision not to fire. Because I'm with you. This seems like an awful way to handle this. Suspending for a full season with an interim coach creates so many future problems.
Just be around them. Those are athletes or former athletes with desires and huge appetites. Wilt had a thousand?
When Matt Barnes apologizes for defending you and thinks something is really messy/wrong then it's time to legitimately worry.
Here's the video conference from today. "BRIGHTON, MA -- Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and Celtics Governor Wyc Grousbeck discuss the one-year long suspension of Head Coach Ime Udoka for multiple violations of team policies."
