99% of the people who have rushed to use lethal force would not look at chokeholds as an alternative.

And even so does that outweigh the deaths and injuries that would be the result of these chokeholds?

Yes they are very dangerous and can cause death and injury. They are less lethal than using a firearm and we've seen several situations where LEO have gone to firearms where less than lethal force could be used. I'm not going to say that in all of those cases chokeholds would've led to saving the life of the suspect. In the range of force though they are safer than using firearms.

You and @Rocket River raise good points that there have been abuses and for too many LEO training is terrible. I put this though in the same area as I would be against a blanket ban on firearms for regular officers, like in the UK and Ireland. I think US LEO face more hazards than in those countries and there are times when lethal force must be used. I look at it as more of a matter we need much better training in techniques and use of force.

This is true and why I keep harping on the fact that chokeholds are not top of the list of restraint training and would get you fired in any other job that required for a person to be restrained.

I can agree with that. I just don’t agree with a blanket ban.
