That's old news. The SA connection was in the surfing article. Barry is coming to h-town. However, if he does opt for Duncan/Parker over Yao/Tmac (sure...much better exposure and opportunities...NOT) Then we should go hard after Harpring in package with Arroyo. Harpring can shoot shoot shoot, and play defense. He'd be awesome here, next to Tmac, if we can just help deliver Utah something they want.
Assuming the Spurs re-sign Manu, Barry is 2nd string behind Parker and Manu and fighting for PT with Jason Hart & Devin Brown. Or, Barry can SnT to Houston netting him an extra $720k over the life of his contract (SnT escalates 12.5% vs 10% for MLE on a base salary of $5.2m) and he can start. Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me but who knows.... U[DATE: Hedo = 44 GS and 2,073 minutes. Manu = 38 GS and 2,260 minutes.
I wouldn't blame him for signing with spurs. The Spurs are a better team and he wouldn't have to play for van grumpy.
I read somewhere that the Spurs are also looking at bringing Steven Jackson back. He had a great season for the Hawks last year. If they sign all these guys they're gonna need a 20 man roster. I agree with Pasox2, Barry is coming to H-town.
barry won't pass up 24 million to start..if he went to spurs he would come off the bench and get paid less
Why? Ginobili came off the bench last year? He could very well be the starting SG. Sharing the backcourt with Tony Parker. Especially since there is no gauruntee that Ginobilli will re-sign with the Spurs. Several other teams are courting him.
There's no way that San Antonio is going to offer good money for Ginobili to come off the bench. And I would be shocked that San Antonio lets Ginobili slip away.
If the Spurs want to tie up all their money in Manu and either SJ or Barry all the power to them. I believe that would give them little flexibility to add another defensive presence big. I don't think Rose and Rasha provide a very strong supporting cast for TD on the interior and it was pretty obvious dusting off Willis and Horry didn't help much either. Personally, I suspect they first sign Manu (starting at what 8 million+ to keep Denver and Utah away) and go cheap the rest of the way, e.g., resign Bowen and/or Hedo (or someone like Peeler) for far less than MLE money. I think Barry and S Jack are fall back positions if they lose Manu.
Spurs are bringing Luis Scola over from overseas. He is another back up big man available to them. Manu is better off the bench then a starter.....
