I would choose Bregman at his price, he has put up 2 different over 30 HR seasons and 2 over 100 RBI seasons if Correa had done that so far you would not hear a peep from me.

What does carrying a team have to do with anything I have posted?

Judge Trout Comparisons are not silly that's the type of bat that Correa was supposed to have, and he was talked about as being that type of offensive bat, its not even really about Judge and Trout it's about Lindor and Bellinger who have put up better numbers.

WAR is just a cumulative stat and it's funny you try and **** on Trout when he has a higher WAR but then use that stat to pump up Correa.

He was billed as a Cal Ripken, Troy Tulowitzki type. A big, strong SS. He's only played 2 full seasons, so kind of critical to say he hasn't hit 30 HR or had 100 RBI.

And Ripken was one of the best players in baseball the first half of his career.

Correa has elite value because he plays elite defense and has a plus quality bat. Apparently that sort of production leads to wins… and he will get paid for that… whether you believe it or not.

Yes, its a cumulative stat based on games played and consistency from season to season… which is why at the end of his career, Correa will likely have a HOF resume despite not having some statistically flush season that you’re enamored with (much like Ripken).

Not sure why you’d choose Bregman… he’s going to be paid $30 million+/year for the next 2 years for less production (and possibly more missed games)… but also glad you’re not building these teams.

His injuries don't make him immune and players have been injured and still cracked the 30hr and 100 RBI plateau.

Tulowiski best years are what I have been talking about, and he has fallen short of them.

Correa has been one of the best players in baseball, I never said otherwise.

When have I ever said Correa does not have elite value?

When have I ever said he will not get paid?

I choose Bregman because of his bat and his defense and I have no issue with him being paid 30 million over 2 years, which is not what Correa wanted, so why did you even bring that up?

Some of you all need to read what I have actually posted and stay on topic.

A lot, if you value a 30 HR and 100 RBI as elite level and a player of Carlos caliber lesser. Baseball is about so much more than that, but it's obvious that you don't care

Take your own advice and read what I posted.

I said both players over the next 3 years at the same money, which would you choose? And you’re choosing Bregman because of the season he had 3 years ago.

Bregman will be very much overpaid for his performance for the next 2 years… whereas Correa will actually be paid fair market value, regardless of the type or length of contract he signs.

It just shows your basic lack of understanding of how value is determined in today’s game.

Speaking of " lack of understanding of how value is determined in today's game"

Bregman's AAV is $20M per year. That's all that matters in determining his value vs performance.

He will be significantly cheaper than Correa so how will he be overpaid while Correa is being paid " fair market value" and not overpaid?

Any player making $30 mil+ that can't get you deep into the post season and doesn't add that many more butts in the stands is overpaid.

And WTF kinda case is someone making that the reason Correa hasn't hit 30 HRs or 100 RBIS is because he's only played in 2 full seasons. That's part of the game to stay on the field. There's a reason why baseball is a total numbers game and not per game average. Longevity has EVERYTHING to do in this sport.

Astros maximized what they could from Correa while his salary was low and he was a perfect fit, but at his current price that guy will never go back to the World Series... I mean ever. Bye bye Cooper's Town.

Lastly, WAR is a made up stat that tries to estimate a persons value. Hits, RBIs, Runs scored... those are actual numbers that lead to scoring. Nobody can say that if Correa played all 162 games that he would have had 10 more wins than someone else as there are so many factors to that. WAR is like saying a team would have had a 2 run homerun instead of a solo homerun if the runner before him didn't get caught stealing. That caught stealing changes the outcome of what the pitcher would throw.

If someone wants to make WAR a tie-breaker stat then perfect, but it should never be used as the main value of a player.

Says you. Which is literally at odds with the entire industry. But sure, you could be right.

Who was billing Correa as Trout-level player? and Judge came after Correa so you are definitely talking out of your **** to say that you "thought Correa was going to be like Judge"

Correa's worth comes in his defense and his offense is clutch. He comes through in the Postseason. He is on pace for 120 RBI and 36 HRs for a full 162 game season if it were the Playoffs. That is absolutely critical, because please let me know what Mike Trout's numbers int he postseason are. That's what I thought.

I honestly don’t buy in to the pure production model and paying for war .

situations matter . The game is situation . All homers aren’t equal in the long run .

Correa has a clutch focus to him that really is quite good . How to quantify that is a mystery as well .

These players make the team money in sales and in fan sentiment too . Then there are lockeroom effects .

Baseball is a funky weird sport and people think we have it a little too figured out .

    Correa is a stud .

I’d rather be paying Pena his 700k or whatever he’s making to Correa and his money .

A whole other argument is that Carlos would have had different stats playing with our lineup .

Click made the moves he made . At the end of the day we’ve found an identity as a team and have won a lot of games.

At least the Astros can hover around top 5-10 spender

I was presenting the hypothetical right now based on the previous posters assesment that you have to be an MVP-type player to garner that sort of money.

Bregman would be entering FA now had he not signed the extension. If both players are FA’s at the same time, who is getting the higher AAV and why? (I know the answer but it apparently requires this sort of exercise to help others figure it out).

    The answer is clearly Correa.

He is a year younger and plays the more premium defensive position

Correa was also the higher regarded prospect and has superior physical gifts and tools.
