Even on the best team Dusty Baker has ever been a part of, his team is not the best team in baseball. His team won the 2nd most games in MLB, and yet missed the playoffs. He was 6 outs from winning the WS in 2002. They were up 5 runs in the 7th and the wheels fell off.
If possible would anyone post the Chronicle article? Would like to read what JV had to say to the team.
Your have an unusual definition of bad. Getting to the Super Bowl is difficult. Buffalo did it 4 consecutive years. Something no other team has ever done. Yet, Levy is a bad coach.
Getting to 12 championships over the same period of time as getting to 2 championships with similar teams? The guy that got there 12 times is definitely the better coach.
This Astros era has now won more division titles than the late-90s Astros. Altuve, Bregman, Gurriel, McCullers, and Verlander are the Astros that have been on the team for all five titles.
I know there will always be nostalgia for those late 90’s teams because it was the first real sustained success the franchise had ever had…. But what they’re doing now is not just unprecedented for Astros history, its unprecedented for all of Houston’s sports history. Its still somewhat taken for granted given how long they’ve been good for now. Back when everybody was envious of sustained success of teams like the Spurs, Cardinals, Patriots, etc…. And Houston was having dreams of that possibility with Yao, Harden, Watt, Watson, etc only to have ultimate dissapointment… the Astros are right there (and still have at least a 3-5 year window to go.)
I highly doubt Crane has a "title or you're gone" approach with Click. Click's footprint is barely even on this roster - he's only 2.5 years on the job and has had only one year with 1st and 2nd rd. draft picks. People underestimate how vital a GM is to a franchise, they are the lifeblood. You don't just change out GM's like a pair of shoes, and you definitely don't let one go unless: 1) you know for certain he sucks (i.e. Tim Purpura) and 2) you know for DAMN sure you have a brilliant person in line.
The only thing worse is being one strike away... TWICE! Lol on the Rangers. I feel the Giants fans pain. 2019 was such a huge letdown.
Another division championship. Ho-hum. . Astros making it look easy the last 5-6 years. What a team. Hoping we go all the way this year and win the whole damn thing.
