we should have just re-signed him. We should be win WS or bust every year. We have a lot of players that are going to start getting paid soon.

I find it funny that many fans expect players to be loyal, but when their star player who brought them a World Series and ushered in the greatest era of baseball in the team's history doesn't get much of a contract offer by his team and expects to be paid like every other player of his caliber, they turn on him without a 2nd thought and seem invested in his failure. I think it answers the question of why players have no reason to show loyalty to franchises. Correa has never even said anything bad about the Astros, never asked for a trade, or did any of other things that piss off fans - yet fans still seem to resent him for bizarro reasons.

    Do they though?

Yes, the contracts for Altuve-Bregman become pretty pricey for their last 2 years... but still within market value for their productivity. And Verlander will be paid for his performance and you can't really short-change that. Alvarez's contract extension is still 3 years away from big money.

But then they have a lot of players still on their pre-arb or arb years. They were also $30 million under the tax this year.

The Astros have a very very strong financial situation. The young pitching all blossoming together is huge. Minus re-signing Verlander, they'll have some extra cash to try an infuse the lineup or try and get Tucker/Framber extended.

Well he did get a massage. Who would have thought massages would be so polarizing for Houston fans.

Thank you for the explanation regarding the bad blood between Springer and the Astros. I always saw Springer and thought he enjoyed being a member of the Astros, since he always had a smile on his face. But I guess Springer just has a positive personality, but he still had hurt feeling for how the Astros did him wrong for his earning potential.

Springer is such a great player and teammate, that it was a pleasure to have him have such magical moments on the Astros. But it does suck, he needed to move on to get some peace after how he perceived how the Astros treated him.

It didn't hurt his "moving on" that the Astros didn't really try to keep him.

They had 8 games vs Cleveland in the last 2 weeks and managed to lose 7 of them. It's kind of cool that the division really came down to head-to-head competition.

I just noticed that, due to the season starting late, Cleveland finishes the year with 6 games at home vs KC

White Sox aren't out of it yet at all. Huge 3 game series @ Cleveland starts manana

I agree. Its one of those that's the way its supposed to happen things.

Their 30-42 road record was their doom.

Yeah, including a 60 game MLB season in his health argument is definitely a mark in Correa's favor. Don't know what to say here. I love Correa, but I don't think he's worth 300mil. Given that he hasn't gotten a contract like that yet I'd be surprised if he gets it now at 28.

MLB should just make September all division games to the extent they can. It gives a lot of teams hope right until the end that they can chase down the division leaders and makes the season potentially more interesting for more teams.

We are completely going away from that and I am very happy, losing 24 games (or maybe 28?) against divisional opponents. so happy to be done playing the trash ass Rangers, Angels, A’s and M’s 76 times a year.
a couple years back that did this. I don’t think it was much of a success/nobody noticed and cared.

Given that there will be fewer of them (division games) next year, an all/mostly September division schedule seems less likely than ever.

I would be satisfied if the final 12 games of the season, one series vs each division opponent, were obtainable.

He wasn’t just sitting around doing nothing that year. From all accounts, he originally hurt the back with his workouts not on the field.

3 years of health is not much to scoff at. Hell, 2 years of health is more than this bbs thought he had in him.

Plenty wrote him off after 2018.

that’s how much of a strange anti-Correa agenda there is.

Also, he merely needs a $270 million deal to eclipse 300. Or $240 after next year, etc.

I mean, his 2020 stats were easily the worst of his career though. You can say covid, but it was nearly 40% of a season. He could have been playing through some stuff too. I doubt he was 100% that year.

265, then 230 then 195. He’s getting 35 mil per with the Twins.

By that note, his 2020 post-season was possibly his best.

I’m not going to over-analyze that season other then to say he was presumed healthy from the back standpoint and still had the ability to dominate.
