Would anyone please give a detailed analysis on the contract structures of the current roster? If the length and amount of their salary can be listed, it would be very helpful.

I know Mo T and Weatherspoon have bad contracts, but what's the exact amount, and when will they expire? Are they going to interfere with the resigning of Yao?

    Thanks!

don't have the exact details of the contracts but i do know the answer to this one. The contracts will not interfere. Because the rockets own the bird rights to Yao they can offer him the max contract they are allowed without having to worry about other contracts like Weatherspoon's or Taylor's.

    2004/2005

    1. T-Mac 14.5M - player option '05
    2. Mo Taylor 8.45M - '07
    3. Weatherspoon 5.9M - '06
    4. Howard 5.4M - player option '08
    5. Yao 4.43M - team option '06
    6. Pike 2.7M - '06
    7. JJ 2.48M - '06
    8. Lue 1.65M - player option '04
    9. Boki 1.5M - team option '06
    10. Gaines 1.2M - team option '07
    11. Griffin 0.8M - '05

Mark Jackson, Scott Padgett and Mike Wilks are FAs.

Sub Total before we sign someone with the MLE (around 5.4) and our 1.7 exceptions = 49.01M

Last year the Salary Cap was at 43.84M and the new number won’t be known until Mid-July ...

(I collected this info from an earlier poster and Patricia's site, but since we don't have the search function, I can't remember who to give the credit to ... whoever that was, feel free to step up and get credit ... :) )

Now I'm not an expert on this, so I hope AElliott or Gater chime in with their expertise. In my understanding, the other contracts won't interfere with Yao, because his Bird's rights enable us to sign him to a Max contract just like anyone else. But other teams can only increase that salary by 10% each year, while the team with his Bird's rights can offer him a contract increasing 12.5% each year. Therefore, regardless of what our other salaries are, we'll be able to offer him more money than anyone else.

I believe this is all correct.

One more than to add: I believe we can offer Yao 7 years, while other teams can only offer him 6 years.

Bottom line is, Yao will never leave over money. And if he does, the soonest hell be able to leave is Summer of 2007.
