I'm so out of touch I have no idea who WB and PB are and whether they're football players, basketball players or Marines in a photo op. Could be Wild Bill and Paul Bunyan I suppose.

They always have been. Cities in general have been that way since Nimrod and the Tower of Babel.

My dream season for the Twins was Correa doing decent enough and they start out well, only to fall flat and miss the playoffs. Looks like that's happening.

The twins were a borderline playoff team before they signed Carlos Correa, and it looks like they still are on the fringes of being on the outside looking in.

Carlos has had a good year, like he typically does, but he hasn’t been the difference maker the twins thought they were getting.

In 2021, they finished last in their division with a 73-89 record. The 2022 team in on pace to do better than that.
But from 2017-20, they finished either 1st or 2nd in their division. Those teams are better than the current one.

In my view, Carlos Correa made a bad 2021 team into a mediocre one.

Correa has an 825 OPS at the most difficult defensive position around, where he plays really well defensively. He’s going to be worth 5+ wins by the end of the year in all likelihood. The twins easily got their value out of that deal in a competitive sense. It’s a shame we don’t have Correas bat in our lineup going into the playoffs.
I miss him. We clearly didn’t need him in the regular season. If we get knocked out in a series where Peña ***** the bed going 2/26 and flailing away helplessly at balls in the dirt, or airmails a couple throws to first base that lead to important runs scoring it will be really hard to argue against the idea that not signing CC was a huge loss. If Peña performs well then the FO gets to take a big victory lap.

So, he has the 25th highest OPS and the 23rd highest war (at the moment). Not impressed for $35M.

Besides, I think the greater point is being missed, which is, he was brought to Minny not to have a good $$$/War ratio, but to lead the team in the playoffs. To build a winning mentality.

Instead, they will miss the playoffs entirely and have a losing record.

Pena makes 0.5% of the Astros payroll. Correa's potential money went to Verlander, Neris, and Montero.

Trout and Ohtani say hi. Baseball isn’t a sport where on or even two stars can carry a team to the playoffs.

I agree with you. I think Carlos thought he could anyway. Perhaps elements in the Minny Brass as well.

ALC is the weakest division by far. They could still win it

Twins still have a bunch of games left with Cle and ChiSox. Also have a bunch of games against KC, Angels and Det. They could easily pull out the division still

Astros are $30MM below the luxury cap. Correa's potential money went to ... no one. Or maybe Neris. I'm pretty sure the Astros would be a better team with Correa instead of Neris. That, however, is a different question of whether he's worth the money.

At the end of the day, if Correa would have been the difference between a WS and not, he'd have been worth the money. If not, he wasn't.
