Crap... that's who I was missing. I should never be a copy editor. (Fixed the original post) I think Yanier gets the nod due to his ability to play multiple positions especially catcher. I do wonder... if Dusty will actually allow Chas to pay CF everyday in the playoffs despite his lack of trust in him (not just demonstrated through lineup construction but pre and post game quotes)
My take on play-off pitching. Starters J Verlander or C Javier in case JV is still injured, with F Valdez*, J Urquidy, & L Garcia. Tandems (Opener/Long RP) L McCullers & C Javier or S Martinez if Javier or McCullers is filling in elsewhere. Relievers R Pressly or L McCullers in case Pressly is still injured, with R Stanek, H Neris, B Abreu, & R Montero. If you feel an overwhelming need for another reliever add Smith to give Dusty something to play with.
That's not what i suggested so i don't see how it makes any sense for you to make that comment. Btw, MILB has a grade of 55 on Brown and Burleson. Hunter Brown ranked at 71 and Burleson at 92. So let's not pretend the gap is that huge...
Unless I'm mistaken each team has to have 13 pitchers and 13 position players (can't carry 14 pitchers).
Top 10 rh pitching prospects from 2017 (Brown isn't even top 10): Alex Reyes Tyler Glasnow Lucas Giolito Michael Kopech Francis Martes Anderson Espinoza Brent Honeywell Jose De Leon Jeff Hoffman Reynaldo Lopez So figure maybe 1 in 3 chance at long term success?
When is the last time the Astros had both their top 2 pitchers available for more than half a season? Plus, Hunter Brown can help NOW and the FUTURE
Guess where Dallas Keuchel was on the prospect lists even just for the Astros two years before he won the Cy Young.
Unless they changed it, a team can't have MORE than 13 pitchers but can have less. I expect 12 in ALDS If they get there : 13 in ALCS, especially with games in 5 consecutive days ( if it goes 7)
Mccullers Valdez Javier Urquidy Garcia Still outside looking in... Contenders usually trade unproven talent before proven. Injuries happen... of course this assumes Verlander is gone which leaves money to plug holes you would fill by trading Brown so it's a moot point. How about i find a pitcher who did awesome in their debut and amounted to nothing? Will you agree to apologize for your dumb comment?
Probably not very high given his lack of velocity... Did you have a point? He's going to be Keuchel starting 6 games for us filling in for injuries? You're making me guess your point...
2011 Jeremy Hellickson Julio Tehran Kyle Drabek Michael Pineda Jacob Turner Jameson Taillon Shelby Miller Casey Kelly Jarrod Parker Jordan Lyles 2012 Julio Tehran Shelby Miller Jameson Taillon Trevor Bauer Dyland Bundy Gerrit Cole Jacob Turner Taijuan Walker Archie Bradley Jarrod Parker Lots of suck on those lists... Point being that a great prospect is still iffy of hitting even with a strong debut Contenders eliminate iffy spots in their lineups....
I can see being heavy on the position players due to the lack of speed/baserunning of Vazquez, Bregman, Mancini, and maybe Yordan And I'll ignore all talk of trading Hunter Brown who has been solid in AAA all year with no real weaknesses.
You going to ignore the hole in center, first, and left too? It's important to keep Brown in case 2 pitchers get hurt am i right?
I agree that Brown should not be traded. However, someone almost surely needs to be. I am a firm believer that JV will be back. The team must keep 6 SP until he does, but once he resigns then one has to go. That's a great problem to have but this team has holes, and too many young unproven players is not ideal for a contending team. So: Step 1: resign JV Step 2: trade Garcia, Urquidy, or Javier ( in that order of preference) for a young controllable potential all star 1B or CF. Rotation: JV, Framber, Lance, Brown, and 2 of the 3 listed above. Jayden Murray will be next year's Hunter Brown.
I don't necessarily disagree by using Brown as starter #6. I just don't want starter number 6 or 7 prioritized over centerfield or 1B. To me a prospect for a prospect makes more sense for where the Astros are at... If we're dealing a major league starter i would lean Framber because he's closest to getting paid, older, and i think he fetches the most via trade. If we could get a similar haul as Minnesota got for Berrios I would strongly consider it pending details...
