That seems better than the situation in Portland.
It’s affecting real estate now . People are selling their homes cause the homeless camps are also in residential areas

These neighborhoods just need a good old fashioned Texas-style HOA.

Or they can just control their meth and heroine dealer population

Lin could have thrived with time and opportunities 15 years earlier, you could invest the price of a teardown in Hunter's Creek Village on that project, but not the cost of an F-16.

There is less meth and heroine addicts in Finland because the cartels in Norway and Sweden aren’t as good as the Mexican cartels

also it’s easier to transfer drugs and not worry about arrest in Portland than assembling a bed from ikea

One thing I’ve noticed with tough enforcement of things like vagrancy laws and taking down homeless encampments is it becomes a problem of whack a mole. You usually end up pushing encampments out of one area and they spring up somewhere else. I don’t think any city has enough resources to keep up.

There is no single solution. We can build tiny homes and other creative solutions which will take care of part of the homeless population but that doesn’t address others.

    Criminalize heroin and meth use
    And arrest drug dealers
Most of the drug dealers in these ‘cities in the news’ know they can do this no problems

The key is to start long before people ever become homeless and we aren’t willing to extend the resources to do that. Some smaller countries have had success but no large country.

Housing is still crucial, many of the homeless were not drug addicts until they were homeless for awhile and affordable housing will help these people. In addition the home life growing up for a lot of these homeless people was atrocious.

That doesn’t even get into the functional homeless people, which are people that have employment or look for employment and live on the streets but stay at a hotel once or twice a week to stay clean enough to keep their jobs. There is zero valid excuses for these people not having housing.

A lot of critics like to point to the long term homeless, drug addicts and mentally ill. Some of these people will not function with or without housing and resources, but many of them.

We will never completely eliminate it, but we could resolve 85% of it based on studies and research.

The problems start before drug abuse. Drugs are a major problem for sure but it is also societal, poorly raised and unloved children, a lack of mental health growing up and a real lack of affordable housing.
