http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2004-07-05/1011979252.shtml (Chinese) Per Dennis Lynch (Rox personnel manager? called Yao), sounds like there were 13 PG who contacted the Rox. Hudson was first out because of his crazy style. Snow and Watson were eliminated because they are not FAs and Watson isn't proven and Snow is old and not good at 3s plus injuries. Arroyo out because he is not good at 3s either. So the choices were narrowed down to Fisher and Barry. Each has his pros and cons, but Barry's height and his 3ptr % edged him over Fisher. Barry has got the offer, but will have to wait till 7/14 to be able to possibly sign it. Also the team is still quite hopeful on Gaines. Per Yao, "now the last piece missing is a big guy who can give me a rest."
Does that rule out Fisher? Yao's right. If Barry accepts, we must first worry about our backup C. As evident by their aggressiveness this offseason, the Rockets seem to have finally banked in on that 'splash'.
Didn't we already know this? We already knew that the Rockets gave the offer to BB, so I dont understand the shock of this rehashed report?
Basically all this news is worthless until Barry either rejects or accepts the offer and or we give Fisher an offer as well.
Thank for the info! I agree. Get another quality center IMMEDIATELY. Not only to rest Yao, but in case of foul trouble.
Watch out, it is written by Yang Yi. Yang Yi's articles stand for "all bulls**t" in my personal opinon.
IMPORTANT: Did the article state that Barry accepted the offer??? Or did it just say he recieved the offer over everyone else?
It didn't rehash anything, it basically broke down WHY the Rockets eliminated options at the point and gave the offer to Barry. If this is true, it shows that it really did come down to Fisher and Barry.
If it was no new information it was worthless however because I am not fluent in Chinese I didnt know if it stated that he accepted the offer/
The article says that Barry accepted 4 yr 24 million contract. However, the article said that Barry told the Rockets this on morning of July 4, Beijing time or the evening of July 3 US time. If this had indeed occurred, I suspect that the media would have heard this rumor already. Consequently, I'm very suspious of the truthfulness of this report.
Yes the article says "after Barry decided to accept the 4 year 24 millions deal offered by the Rockets, Dawson's new Rockets team is basically done assembling."
That Yang Yi guy actually got this whole "done deal" idea from www.fanball.com, which only says "Houston offers B.Barry...", but he's just unable to figure out the difference between "received an offer" and "accepted an offer"! Don't trust any words from him while most chinese bball fans doubt his credibility.
