    I don't see it either. However, what is 6.9 X 4 with 12.5% annual raises? Could easily be 40.

    Les approved it or CD went ahead on his very own to sneak this offer (IF TRUE) past the boss?

    You failed to mention that he has only played the point the last season and a half. His turnover numbers have always been consistently low. His assist numbers have gone way up the past three seasons.

    Anyway, even though he isn't nearly the ball handler that Stevie is, I'd feel more comfortable with him bringing the ball upcourt. He passes very well out of the trap.

    That is not possible. We will have to ask a team to sign him and trade him to us for TE plus a contract. We won't be giving away any reasonable contract (are we:confused: ), but why would any team take a bad contract from us for doing us this favor?

    There is absolutely no reason to offer more than TE. No other team can offer him that much money. If Jazz want to throw money at him, let them. Let's go after Fisher or Hudson for the MLE.

    Arroyo might sign for less, but the Jazz could match. And even if they didn't, they could still make us wait for two weeks to find out.

    EXCELLENT post. People are treating this signing like this is a player that is going to carry the team to a championship. This team is already heavy with some bad contracts. They are not going to shed those anytime soon, so I doubt we clear any serious cap space before Yao gets his big contract...after which we won't have much maneuvering room. So you use the TE now on the best player that fits the team best. The age is not important as long as he can play at a high level for the next couple years (he can). Going after Arroyo with an offer sheet and potentially getting NOTHING just because you thought Barry was one or two years too old to offer a 4 year deal to is way too big a risk. Barry fits this team perfectly. That should be the biggest consideration.

    I have been defending the Barry signing for 24 Million but for 40 Million I am totally against that. That is amost a Max contract. I hope this report is way off.

    Over the last 3 seasons (during which Barry has taken on the role of PG more and more...before he was more of a SG) Barry's assist to turnover ration has been 2.6 to 1. Over that same span of time, Jason Kidd's has been 2.7 to one, Stephon Marbury's was 2.8 to one. Gary Payton's was much better at 3.5 to one. But that's good company.

    Yeah, I want Barry bringing it up.

    it's been understood by most that they will match unless he gets a real out of line offer like a max contract.

    Enough of this nonsense. The Trade Exception can't be used to sign FA's. The only scenario that works for a FA signing is sending SEA a pick for a Barry SnT. No way on this planet the Rox will nor will have to pay Barry that kind of $. And for those of you that can't/won't to the arithmatic:

    Yr1 = $6,900,000
    Yr2 = $7,762,500
    Yr3 = $8,732,813
    Yr 4 = $9,824,414
    Tot = $33,219,727

    The TE allows the Rox to offer Barry (an unrestricted FA) more than any other team. But I call BS on the 4 years $40m.

    What percent are you using to escalate his pay?

    Thanks.

    Looks like 12.5% increases per year, the max allowed under the CBA I believe.

    Can't we offer the Cavs and Boozer the trade exception, the first-rounder for 2006 and 2008, a second-rounder for 2005, and a 7-year deal...?

    it is impossible that we have that kind of $$ to offer.

    my guess is baller5x might have misread the screen and seen the pistons offer rasheed 4yrs/$40M....

    also - we are the last reported team to make barry an offer. why would we try to "up" our own offer?

    How many roll playing power forwards can one team handle? 3 is enough. Boozer is resigning with the Cavs- everyone should just get over him.

    Agree with everyone who thinks this new 4yr/$40M offer for barry is a mistake. It is a mistake on Fox Sports or on Baller5X part.

    If it were true then how come neither foxsports.com nor espn.com is sniffing it in the least.

    (I won't believe it til Doc -- or Berman tells me it is so.)
