I think it's safe to say we've ALL changed our tone since that thread for the better. I am not here to rehash the past and accept your current views as what truly matters. My recollection was more that you posited that Islam was inherently evil, where posters such as @fchowd0311 were talking about political Islam.
Real Time is a weekly show, not daily, so it isn't quite an apples to apples comparison. Something like Dennis Miller Live is a better analog for Real Time, and he had the Rant at the end of every episode. Yes, that is the format of his show. One on one interview, panel discussion, then New Rules. Are there still people that watch live television (outside of sports)? I imagine most of his audience just catches him on HBO Max. It is possible that he does what you are saying, I don't watch him enough to know, but I expect he just has a few opinions that are not in lockstep with the progressive orthodoxy, and because he is generally in that lane, things that he says that are more in agreement with conservatives or libertarians stand out. Like Liz Chaney and the January 6 committee. Nobody bats an eye at Thompson and what he says on the committee, but Liz is far outside of her normal camp.
