Keeping this in the D&D for obvious reasons.

My father is nearing retirement and has been battling anxiety with the thought of no longer working.

I’ve been able to help him get over the anxiety through multiple techniques, and one that’s really stuck is listening to podcasts/ audio books. He enjoys comedy, but he’s easily offended when someone takes shots at conservatives… which limits what he can listen to.

He’s been leaning on me heavily for recommended content, but the issue is outside of Adam Carolla I don’t really know what to recommend… especially when it comes to books. I did get him a Carlin book which I think he will enjoy, but am open to ideas. My favorite comedy style authors take occasional jabs at republicans in their writings (Dave Barry for example), and I don’t want him to get discouraged because the audio books are really helping him.

    @Space Ghost @AroundTheWorld @bobrek @StupidMoniker @Os Trigonum id appreciate your input.

What does he like outside of your type of comedy? What did he do in his youth? What are his hobbies? Outdoors? History? Military? Travel? What?

"A Painted House" by John Grisham (non-lawyer stuff) is excellent, my Granny loved the audio book.

Bill Bryson is someone to look into, again, not knowing his proclivities.

"This Boy's Life" by Tobias Wolfe, maybe

"Lonesome Dove" audio book is fantastic if you can't read the text

Again: give some more parameters and I can for sure recommend more books

His main hobby is watching Fox News lol.

He played college baseball but I’ve never really had good luck with baseball books. He also was a big surfer when he was younger. Military history might be a good idea, he loved the man in the high castle show… but personally I found the book extremely boring so I’m not sure if that would work for him.

He read a few Grisham books when I was younger, maybe not a bad idea. Looking for easy listening books while he golfs, works around the house etc. Keeps his mind off of things.

    Kook: Peter Heller
No One Goes Alone: Erik Larson

He would probably like Matt Walsh or Louder with Crowder. Ben Shapiro and Dave Rubin are not quite as comedy focused, but they are politically up his alley. I like to listen to sci-fi or fantasy podcasts personally, like Hello from the Magic Tavern, but they make fun of conservatives.

David McCullough if he's in a history mood, along with Stephen Ambrose, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", Doris Kearns Goodwin, "The Killer Angels", Hampton Sides, Howard Zinn (if you want to blow his mind), "With the Old Breed", "Rocket Men" or "A Man on the Moon", and others

I don’t care how much of a conservative straight white boomer male your dad is, he’s going to love this Dick.

If he likes history how about The Right Stuff. He can watch both the movie and listen to the audiobook by Tom Wolfe.

I’m trying to get him content outside of politics. That’s all he consumes now.

All he consumes is politics. Trying to give him recommendations that aren’t that.

People that love politics seem to like history often too? Pushes the same buttons, I guess? I'd consider a good biographical history audio book or podcast. Probably one of the people you mentioned knows what's hot today, and could direct you further. Just a thought.

I'll second Barbarian Days. Just finished it. Best account of surfing I've read.

Tapping the Source is a novel, but very good.
Also, The Tribes of Palos Verdes- bleak, but very realistic on surfing and localism. Was made into a movie.

Buy him a radio and let him listen to Michael Berry.

Dan Bongino Show - political conservative podcast

Stuff They Don't Want You to Know - not over the top political but I do know older and younger people that listen and enjoy it.
