Considering both sides of the ball, I don't think it's really close at the moment. We have guys with lots of prospective upside, but as of now, it's KPjr.
Probably the player a contender is going to want now to help them contend so Eric Gordon. Though Green will probably secure the spot of "best player" by mid season by my estimate.
At his best, KPJ is the best player on the team when you consider both sides of the ball because as of now he's the most talented. The problem is his inconsistency. That's not to take away from other players, there are many others who excel in one particular area. Green is the most explosive athlete, Sengun is the most creative passer, Smith is almost certainly the best defender, Tate is the best at being awful at basketball but somehow staying in the starting lineup anyway.
The most talented player is the player NBA GMs are going to take first relative to the players you are comparing them with. So which player on this roster would GMs take first? I'm pretty sure everyone here knows the answer to this.
Yay! A new thread where everyone will be arguing about what they're already arguing about in almost every other thread. Question would be easier to answer once they've played a few. Know way to know who has progressed and to what level.
That's not always how it works. Sometimes they'll take a guy with one elite skill or trait over the overall most talented player. Also, I'm sure you know that the hesitation GM's might have when it comes to KPJ has absolutely nothing to do with talent....so it's a dishonest argument to begin with.
There are other plays like Kuminga who have similar athleticism to Green and is bigger but no GM is going to pick him over Green. Green wouldn't be a highly touted prospect if his only elite talent was athleticsm.
Green had an amazing run to end the season. He let the NBA game slow down, and it didn’t seem he forced himself into making bad plays just for the sake of doing something. i think he most definitely gave a long glimpse as to why the Rockets are so high on him. He’s got a gear that you don’t see with even other NBA stars. Therefore if he can sustain a high level of play, and with that secret gear in his back pocket, he is a difference maker for sure.
If green isn’t by far the best player on the team by the end of this coming season that would be very concerning, given how little competition he has
Honestly probably true. His defense is in a completely different league, even though "both sides of the ball" has recently been a way for people to weirdly pump up KPJ.
KPJ had the better overall season last year and had a great end of the season. Green....He had a long run (25 or so games) averaging 20+ per game on a high percentage to end the season in which the Rockets played the other teams nearly even while he was on the court. With his improvement, Green is likely the better player now and going forward.
Green is our best 3-tier, transition, draw the gravity of the defense scoring option Porter is our best 3-tier, transition, draw the gravity of the defense scoring option, facilitator. Different roles but equally important. MJ needed BJ Armstrong, Kerr, John Paxson to bring the ball up past mid court as a means of not wasting energy vs full court coverage. Harden needed that as well when we had Beverley, Lin, Ty Lawson, CP3, Westbrook. ------------------- Both Porter and Green can draw double and triple coverage headed to the basket; but Porter is better at quarterbacking and distributing the ball than Green. Green can be a scoring champion, while Porter can be Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, DeJounte Murray, De'Aaron Fox.
During that same stretch of play, KPjr put up MONSTER #'s. Yeah, loved the way JG pulled it together in the second half...especially the last 1/4. Who knows what their upside is? I could easily see them being the best backcourt in the League in 2-3 years.
