I’ve seen enough. Neris and Montero need to be sent down. 6th starter becomes reliever. Call up Martinez.

So we need a 3 or 4 run lead heading into the ninth from here on out. Hmm.

    Already adjusting my list:

    3. Neris
    4. Abreu
    5. Montero

We are essentially down to 4 relief pitchers we can trust to any extent heading into the playoffs.

Montero's smoke and mirrors show is officially over. He's that 4.50 era guy he's always been. Think Maton.

We will get help from 2 of our 6 starters once the playoffs start. Garcia most likely and then either Junior or Urquidy. I prefer Junior, he's been there before (see 2017). Urquidy has proven himself as starter in the playoffs, has nothing to show for as a relief pitcher in terms of experience.

I have no problems with the pen arms you mentioned (they've pitched a ton and were due for a stretch of arm fatigue) but I'd love to see H.Brown and Garcia in the pen for the reason you mentioned.

I wouldn't mind Montero getting a restful trip to the IL for 10+ days. "Arm discomfort" and whatnot.

Glad they waited until after the deadline for this regression.

I have never played professional baseball, I have never been in a professional baseball organization in any capacity, I essentially have no expertise in professional baseball, BUT, if it was up to me, Montero would never see a baseball field in Houston again. He should not be in the position he is in. He is a morale destroyer. When you have outstanding starting pitching, and work hard to get a lead and see Montero throw it away, it really discourages a team. I would ship him to the minors tomorrow.

Too bad there's no lefty in the bully they can trust (looking at you, Will Smith), Twins ran like 4 or 5 lefthanded hitters up there in the 9th.

Montero hit a guy a few days ago, he has lost some confidence. He will be just fine.

I don't think we are catching the Dodgers (86 wins after tonight), but 80 is a very good number for the 3rd week in August, for any team, in any year.

The first 2 hits off Montero were flukes.

    AL leaders in wins

    1. Verlander 16
    2. Valdez 13
    3. Urquidy 12 (tied with 2 others)

    True story.

Brown would be a weapon… much like Lidge was in 2004. Very curious to see if he’s on the radar come September.

Garcia’s control bothers me in the pen… but if he’s max effort, his stuff dials up (as does Javier’s).

I just don’t want the formulaic Stanek-Montero-Nerris-Pressly option. That was great for the regular season, and they’re going to coast to a 100 win season in large part due to it. But all these guys have pitched a lot… and haven’t necessarily ramped it up when the pressure got more severe. They’re still going to pitch critical innings in the post-season…. I just also want the option to leave that tandem guy in if he’s cruising.
