I’m sure someone has responded, but we have a tendency to get no hit the game after we score double digits. We almost always lose. Bet the under on us for next game.
I think we need to be resigned to the fact that Will Smith is just not gonna be a factor for us in the playoffs. He won't even make the post season roster at this point.
Nah... it was a move to get cost assurance for next year and make sure Odorizzi isn't on the team next year. If Smith pitches well then that is a bonus, but primarily this is cutting costs for next season. Odorizzi has escalators on his player option and buyout for next year based on the number of appearances he has where he gets 12 outs or more this season. For each of 20, 25, and 30 appearances with more than 12 outs this season his player option and buyout goes up. The player option can top out at 12.5 million and the buyout at 6.25 million. So far he has 14 appearances with 12 outs or more. So he has a shot to hit the first escalator at 20 appearances with more than 12 outs which would make his player option 8.5 million and his buyout 4.25 million for next season. He also has incentives for this season based on innings. If he hits 100 innings he gets 500k and then a million each for 110,120,130,140,150, and 1.25 for 160 innings. He is currently at 73.2 innings. So 26.1 more innings he starts to hit incentives. He MIGHT get to 100-110 innings which would be an additional 500k to 1.5 mil in incentives. He has 8 more starts if they stay with him in the current rotation. With Will Smith the Astros are paying him a little more this season with whatever is left on his 13 million dollar salary. However, next year he will get a 1 million dollar buyout and the Astros will be done with him.
Man I feel like you have to immediately get called back to the minors if you get struck out swinging by a position player.
