Man already got away scott free in Nebraska. The trainwreck with the police was really his own forced errors, so you're led to believe he could've lived comfortably as a petty kingpin in Nebraska if he wanted. That phone booth scene acouple episodes before was more tame than was initially led on. But it made Gene go tilt as Saul, and he gave it all up when he heard Kim came clean after that call. There was a camera shot of Saul confessing with the exit sign in plain view. I guess that's the climax where he stopped running away. Even with all that baggage, I was still moved when Kim visited him in prison as that was as close to forgiveness for Jimmy or Kim could get. Without that confession, I don't think the series would've worked out. Anyone noticed they made his hairline like his bro's? Even confirmed it later on..
I am so sad its over, I liked the ending, it was very fitting...............kudos VG. I guess that's the end of the franchise
AMC is notoriously bad with that crap....they could have played it commercial free and let the hour play out. That's why I hate watching crap live on AMC but I thought the finally was excellent, really brought this show and elements of BB together in a satisfying way. The court room sequence was just perfectly filmed, there's plenty of visual cues that play into the subtext of the scene.
And not just visual. I really liked the sound of the Exit sign’s transformer as Jimmy steered his confession to include Chuck, bringing back memories of Chuck’s fear of electricity. the finale was very satisfying
I need to watch it again, commercials definitely broke it up a lot on first viewing. I think overall I figured it would have been something like this ending, I just felt BrBa finale was more satisfying since there were still things that had to be wrapped up/finished, so I probably was more hyped for finale. This last season of Saul mainly wrapped up last episode (1st half) first episode (2nd half). I mean the continuation after BrBa was good to really finish it up, but I just didn't feel as tense with the courtroom scene vs scene of Walter saving Jesse. I kind of wonder if Saul would have dropped that deal, he's usually a few steps ahead, but character progression/tired of always looking over your shoulder/worried about Kim etc makes sense too. Definitely not hating on it or something, BCS had some big shoes to fill and it did a great job.
I kind of loved the scene with insufferable Walt refusing to humor Saul with the time travel thought experiment.
I think he fully intended to take the deal until the feds revealed that Kim had already disclosed the entire Hamlin story, it really made him reassess everything IMO......
Right, I don't disagree with you, I just would have liked to have a happier ending for at least one of the main characters in these series, especially once the main dangers were gone (dangerous criminals from both series etc.), but I also understand why the character did it - to protect Kim and regain some redemption being Jimmy. I liked that he used it as a way to see her one last time in the court by spreading misinformation. Ie even if it didn't work to mend things he at least got to see her in person one more time.
This was the happiest end possible- Jimmy faced up to his actions, reclaimed himself and set Kim free to go on with her life. The confession/realization in the court room was the idea that what Jimmy did to Chuck was the worst thing of all even if it wasn't illegal.
Right, I'm definitely not disagreeing with you on points of why and mentioned similar reasoning, what I meant by happier ending was one where he's not stuck permanently but at the same time I figured he'd end up killed or in jail so it made sense on it being this way.
I don't think any of them deserved any particular happy endings I think rewarding him with the 7 yr was a setup to a poor ending . . . .I think Hank's wife represented the audience in the dissatisfaction I think Kim's visit in Prison was a great moment. Kim always liked the game. She realized she had limits. Jimmy didn't have limits until this episode. They both found their level at the end. They were almost where they were when they met Mentally . .. instead of heading up on the curve. . .this was them on the down side of the curve . . IMO Rocket River
Glad we know how the BB/BCS story goes but sad to see it end. Interesting move by Jimmy to forgo the easy 7 year sentence for life. What impact did his confession have on Kim and the civil suit?
Very true, I mean if we had a sappy ending, it'd probably have been frowned on because Saul/Kim were def bad. And good point on Hank's wife, I was sometimes frustrated with those chars but they were important parts and their faults weren't like what Saul/Kim were capable of. I mean sure Hank wasn't likeable and his wife liked stealing stuff but they weren't kingpins/causing major grief.
They left it kind of open since Kim gave Howard's wife all the details in an affidavit, but I think it could help at least change the civil suit so it's not all on Kim I'd think.
