1993 Giants were the definition of an aberration for both the Giants and Dusty. But his reputation was built on it.

 

Baseball is random. The best team doesn't win all the time. How does Bobby Cox only have 1 ring with those DOMINATE Braves teams?

116 win Mariners team doesn't even make the WS.

 

Bobby Cox and the 90s Braves say hi! FIVE pennants and only ONE WS win (95) Arguably one of the most dominate pitching staffs of all time and they came away with ONE chip.

 

The 2020 team won 2 playoff series and became just the 2nd team in MLB history to force a game 7 after being down 0-3 despite pitching a bunch of rookies. Last years team lost Greinke as a starter right before the playoffs and then LMJ after the ALDS. Starters regularly **** the bed and relief pitchers that everyone complained about Dusty using during the regular season came through for him a lot. The Astros overachieved the last two years in the playoffs. He definitely got the most out of his players.

In 2019, Hinch definitely didn't get the most out of that team.

 

That's true of everyone before they win a World Series. Was Andy Reid a terrible head coach of the Chiefs before winning the SB? He may or may not be a bad manager but "hasn't won a World Series" isn't a very useful standard.

 

How is Brantley, and what are the chances of him playing this month?

 

Great Team not being utilized to optimize it's performance. His MO is Playoff losses, usually before the CS.

 

It is when you have 11 chances and are 0-fer. That means you're good enough to GO and bad enough to LOSE. Will 1-11 suddenly make him Great?

 

Not good is the answer to both questions.

 

Andy Reid had numerous chances and kept losing in the conference championships. Again, was he a terrible head coach?

 

Good enough to get there and bad enough to LOSE.

They were the best (or second best) team in the league for the 5 year span before he got hired- it’s literally absurd to act like he did something special to make this team successful. He, like Click, took over an extremely talented team and has t torn it apart or ****ed it up. Cool. I’m sure there is an idiot here or there that might have messed up a good thing. But this team and clubhouse run itself and Dusty’s credit should end at “didn’t mess it up”.

 

But you can't prove that anyone could do it and I can prove he didn't mess it up. There is value in that.

 

And no one is saying he is special...I'm saying he isn't garbage and the vitriol is stupid.
