Eh, we're over it. Seriously, he's cared about no one but himself his entire life and these were just the last straws. We seriously doubt we'll ever have a relationship with him again.
i know it's tough as hell...but pray for him. seriously, that can't be a fun life if he's living it only for himself.
Oh we do. We're just not holding our breath that he's going to do anything to change. If he waits too long, he'll discover that he has another niece/nephew and a sister in-law.
Word I was talking to one of my buddies who sometimes does some work for the National Review, and he said that a Bush appointee to the Supreme Court would most likely uphold Roe v. Wade...plus I think the whole... only in circumstances of rape and incest.... is a little half assed. Ohh why wasn't I here when this debate was going on, I could get in it now but will be away from the comp. all day tommorow. I've had a lot of good talks with some pretty solid Catholics who I respect, are conservative, etc. basically hold the same beliefs I do; and they've decided not to vote for Bush, to write in Pat Buchanan and hope Bush wins....
I guess we should all take the word of twhy77's friend and actually vote Bush into office. On the other hand if we listen to Bush: Speaker: Bush, George - President Date: 10/11/2000 Quote/Claim: "There's been too much finger pointing and too much name calling in Washington, D.C. I would like to unite this country to get an agenda done that will speak to the hopes and aspirations of the future." [Source: Debate transcript] Fact: "Bush's approach to leadership has invited Americans to take sides." - Time Magazine, 11/23/03 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Speaker: Bush, George - President Date: 11/13/2003 Quote/Claim: "What we're trying to do is to change the tone in Washington, D.C. We're trying to get rid of all the needless politics and focus on the people's business, focus on results, and not the ugly process that sometimes takes on. We're making good progress. We really are." [Source: White House Web site] Fact: " George Bush has cleaved the nation into two tenaciously opposed camps even more than his predecessors." - Time Magazine, 11/23/03 Speaker: Bush, George - President Date: 2/15/2000 Quote/Claim: "The state can do what they want to [on gay marriage]." [Source: CNN Web site] Fact: "President Bush called for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage." - Sacramento Bee, 2/25/04 Date: 5/2/2000 Quote/Claim: "[It is] going to be up for cities and states to make those decisions [about gay marriage]." [Source: CNN Web site] Fact: "President Bush called for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage." - Sacramento Bee, 2/25/04 I think Bush can be counted on saying one thing, and doing another.
Sorry, perhaps I was reaching. a.) Bush will select someone friendly to abortion rights to SCOTUS. b.) therefore Bush is a safe vote for someone for whom abortion rights is important.
Ahhh...now I get you... Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about voting for him....he's not really strongly for anything I'm for anymore...especially after finding out he's not even that pro-life...its like shoot, why do I want to vote for this man? That's pretty much my money issue, so I think I'm either going to write in my girlfriend's dad or Alan Keyes...
Yeah, that's the problem with the two party system and the non-Australian rules for voting. You get bland and blanderer.
would you still not vote for Bush if you were living in a swing state like FL or MO? "not even that pro-life"? he's halted stem-cell research and late term abortion and when he was governor he signed more anti choice laws than any other governor in the country (parental consent, waiting periods, etc) He wants to make Scalia the CJ of the SCOTUS. I think you'll find relatively few politicians who support a 100% ban on abortion as you do.
Please remember that stem-cell research and the abortion debate do NOT have to go hand-in-hand. The two can be separated, but the Republican Party is unwilling to do so. You can get stem cells without "harvesting fetuses", which is where the abortion link initially comes from. What about artificial insemination? The death penalty? Anything else involving morality and the teaching of Jesus - help the poor, turn the other cheek, equality, fairness, etc. Does the Republican Party make you happy regarding ALL of these issues? (Does the Democratic Party?) Have you (and by this I mean everyone) looked at all of your important issues and made a rational choice instead of looking at simply abortion and gay marriage? There are other so-called "Christian" issues that are ignored by the Republican platform, yet people blindly follow because Republicans have allied themselves with groups like Focus on the Family, the Christian Coalition, etc. Analyze options yourself. Make a choice yourself. Don't fall for cheap propaganda unless you've made the decision yourself.
