    From today's Chronicle:

    So far, so good
Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said that while patience has become the key to negotiations with his free agents, talks are progressing.

"It's been hectic, but things are going about as smooth as they can," Dawson said. "This is an unusual year with so many free agents. But it's all going pretty good."

    -- JONATHAN FEIGEN

Doesn't Carroll read the BBS? Apparently he isn't privy to the crisis we have on our hands here with contract negotiations.

I know! What the hell is the matter with CD?!?!?! His ass should be fired for being oblivious to the major crisis going on in Rocketland.

Or perhaps he wasn't being completely open with the Chronicle.

Which crisis? Where is the crisis? Where did we go wrong, this off-season?

i dont mean to suggest that I have inside info that something will happen within 10 days...that's just when I think more movement will occur...and that's based on nothing but a hunch

The key to your quotes Freak is that they are going as SMOOTHLY AS THEY CAN! The people who take it personally when someone questions Dream is missing the point of what is being mentioned. It is hard for the Rockets to sign other FAs if Dream isn't under contract. People are twisting this around as saying it is a "crisis". No, all people are saying is 1.)The Rockets can't sign a FA until they sign Dream, and there is no news on Dream and 2.) We don't want the Rockets to sign Dream to a 10 million dollar a year, multi-year contract. Nobody ever called it a crisis, people are just making it more dramatic then it has to be because people are upset at Dream and some people overreact when people get upset at Dream.

If that's true, then why can't the Chronicle give us just a little story on free agency? This is off topic, but the Chronicle has by far the worst offseason coverage of local sports teams out of any paper I have seen. Is it that hard to print a story every week or so updating what the Rockets are trying to do with free agents?

CD has proven to be a shrewd and cool customer when it comes to negotiation, and juggling lots of egos and agendas. Rarely does he tip his hand publicly. How many times have his positive maneuvers come out of nowhere like a bolt of lightning? Could not think of anyone better to be in charge of FA's and dealing with Dream('s ego). [IMG]

The Chronicle is in bed with all Houston sports franchises. They don't produce the controversial stuff and do a very good job of catering/protecting to the athletes.

Its a double edged sword, but I like our side. I prefer reporting without embarrasing OUR athletes. The real story is out there, if you look for it.

I don't feel the need to let the Chronicle dictate how I feel.

OR you could be basing your 1 & 2 on completely wrong assumptions. CD could be strumming his fingers waiting by the phone for Dream to call, so he can then sign the rest of the free agents (which I find highly unlikely), OR he could be in negotiations with Marc Jackson OR he could be talking to Nazr Mohammed OR he could be talking to ANY other team about acquiring a center in a trade, OR he could be talking about a sign and trade to solve the 5 spot problem, OR he could be waiting on other issues that we don't know about OR all of the above. The point isn't that you should refrain from criticism of Hakeem under any circumstances, its that you should refrain from ASSUMING things that are NOT FACTS and using those ASSUMPTIONS to crucify a Houston icon. We don't KNOW what CD is doing, period. Speculate on the hold up, thats the fun of the BBS, but refrain from character assasination.

People, come on. Just how desperate for news are we? Will you please look again at CD's quotes. Now imagine, if you were a GM, how you would answer a reporter's question about free agent signings if you wanted to disclose absolutely nothing. Imagine that you didn't want to say "No comment" but wanted to make it look like you were saying something when in fact you were saying absolutely nothing.

The quotes you're looking at are just that. A big, fat zero. Now can we please end this ridiculous argument about how to interpret them.

How many different ways can you say "waiting"? [IMG] Besides, the Rockets organization has always stated they don't play the "take it to the media" card when it comes to contract proceedings. I doubt the Chronicle is getting tons of info, and if even if they are, I doubt CD wants it to be published widely.

TheCat: Coverage of the Boston sports teams is worse [IMG]. Not because it's non-existant, but because it treats them as if they're holy [IMG]. If you're not a fan, it's maddening. If they're doing badly, it's somehow a Greek tragedy. If they're doing well... good lord, you'd think they'd solved world hunger.
