And yet he’s not in the lineup today. I hope he doesn’t get Dusty’d. I don’t think it would have been that ridiculous for him to start the next day after being traded but what do I know. I’m sure there’s some fancy advanced stat to tell me otherwise

I don't think anybody knows including Brantley. Even if he does, he might not hit like the Brantley we know.

If he doesn’t come back, it makes the Mancini move that more magnified.

Don't fret. Dusty won't play any new player until the day after they have spent a full day with the club. It's Dusty.

Vasquez announced as C tomorrow. Mancini might also get a start as this is a Dusty rest day.

Some weird meltdowns by a lot of y’all today, but I guess it’s to be expected. I’m mostly cool with the moves, although I was open to the idea of adding another bat.

I don’t love what we gave up for Vazquez, but I’m happy we added a legitimate catcher that can hit a bit. He’s not going to be the everyday catcher, so everyone thinking that should slow down, he’ll play a decent amount though and it gives us flexibility and insurance. More importantly, it prevents a situation of having a rookie catcher potentially getting thrust into a short postseason series.

Mancini is solid, and being able to play OF helps a lot. Defensively he’s not great but you don’t have to be very good to play LF at MMP. I also think he’ll hit better at MMP than Camden Yards.

I could see us turning Smith around, but I am damn sure worried about Dusty riding him into the ground against lefties. Won’t even matter if a lefty crushes lefties, bc he’s a lefty, so he’ll face all your lefties.

I guess Brantley is coming back?? McCullers? Idk, it’s a bit of a risk to rely on either of those, but either way we are constructed pretty well. Meyers should turn it around eventually, hopefully just in time for the playoffs. They kind of need that. And Chaz has just enough pop to stick around and getting playing time. Now time to stop ****ing around with trash competition, let’s get it!

I don't have a problem with the Mancini or Vazquez moves. Didn't love the Will Smith move that much. They were just desperate to dump Odorizzi it seems. Maybe the Astros can fix Smith and it will work well in the playoffs.

Overall though I'm not happy with the deadline. I could write a 10 paragraph essay on why but don't feel like it. Bottom line... I said in the offseason thread if we started the season with McCormick/Siri, Pena, and Maldy as our 7-9 in the lineup I would be disappointed because I knew how awful the surgery Meyers had was going to be. I really wanted Starling Marte in the offseason. He would look really good in this lineup right now and could have switched to LF when Brantley leaves in the offseason. Nope, who do we get when we are 30 plus million under the tax? Niko Goodrum....

Also, I can easily be switched to not liking the Vazquez trade if Dusty plays Maldy 4 out of 5 games all the time.

At this point I'm holding onto hope that Brantley comes back strong and the Astros do what they don't want to do and put Tucker in CF for the playoffs.

    Altuve 2B
    Brantley LF
    Yordan DH
    Bregman 3B
    Tucker CF
    Mancini RF
    Vazquez C
    Yuli 1B
    Pena SS

    That could work....

Something along the lines that he (Bogaerts) questions the direction of the organization moving pieces like Vasquez and not bringing any in. Apparently they are good friends, Vazquez and Bogaerts that is.

Meyers rocked a 1.000 OPS in AAA with similar strikeout rates as Leon in July.

Though with Meyer’s bum arm, he might be a better defender.

Padres, Yankees, and Twins are the only teams who clearly improved more than Houston.

I would say this is a C grade deadline. They improved the roster in deals that look fair and didn’t reduce their long term projections in any meaningful way. But it is mildly disappointing that they had an area that has looked relatively weak leading up to the deadline (CF) that they weren’t able to address.

Radio guys assume he'll cave because their only principle is to get paid.

    They have no clue.
