It is baseball, there is a huge degree of luck and variance involved but I tend to agree with you. I don't think that Padres team is very well balanced or deep in the right spots. They do have the nastiest heart of the order in the league, but it takes more than that.
People don't think about it......... but if you are Hosmer, and signed with the Padres because you want to live in San Diego... and are in your early 30's with a family and kids, and already worth over 100,000,000..... would you agree to immediately move literally across the country? I personally wouldn't, and it wouldn't be about money. He has a no trade clause for a reason.
3 year/$39M for him is a somewhat reasonable contract, and heck the Nats would eat enough of the money to make it worth it to somebody.
Hes well within his right to blow this whole deal up, but he has to be ready be public enemy #1 in San Deigo as well. How good of a life would that be if he does consider San Diego home?
I mean WTF were the Padres thinking. They should have had Hosmer's OK, before even thinking about making him a part of the trade.
The Astros shouldn't trade anyone in their system (majors or minors) for Snell. Snell hasn't been good since his Tampa Bay years.
All of Twitter indicated this is a done deal irrespective of Hosmer, either he will go to a 3rd team or there are trade iterations without Hosmer that will compete the deal. It’s not not happening (unlike Scherzer to SDP then LAL a few years ago)
