I think that is a valid position to take. Taylor has had a good year, but he isn't exactly a world beater and he has done most his damage at home the last couple of years. The Astros were asking about him as a fall back a few weeks ago, but it could be that they decide they will just stick with McCormick and Meyers in centerfield.
I’m happy for them if it happens. They just need to know ASTROS don’t care and will clap them in the WS
Not that I don't want Reynolds but the two sites I have looked at (Fangraphs and baseballsavant) have him as pretty much the worst cf in baseball defensively. Taylor is only average on both sights. Mullins is better than anything we have.
The Astros need a CF now but may feel like they have their CF of the future already. Meyers: were extremely high on him as everyday CF before labrum injury. Likely they feel the same for his prognosis next year after further recovery. Leon: They love his tools and he impressed in spring training. He has cut his Ks down in AAA the past few months so may be ready and be a special player. Barber: Has shown all the skills they saw when they drafted him but is at least another year away and may be more suited to LF. Gilbert: No professional experience yet but by draft capital and scouting grades may be the option the organization wants most. At least another 1yr+ away. Several others with smaller chances Because of this I think a CF who can produce like and play LF/RF or a rental makes the most sense.
yup. still going with atl/lad over the padres. probably even the mets too padres will be a classic top heavy names lineup with questionable pitching
Taylor was extremely good GG caliber but having a down year. Mullins has always been above average but less than GG caliber. Meyers is still exceptional, except for throwing but the Astros need a more rounded CF now who can hit, run produce, run, catch, and throw.
Right? Soto alone was going to cost 4/5 top prospects …oh and here, you can also have Josh Bell as a “throw in”.
